Just saw this on Craigslist. Very cool truck. I hope you get every penny you want!!!

Just to be clear; the engine and transmission were not rebuilt.

45k .. that's a built 200 glws

that's a beautiful 80, no doubt (probably one of the best looking ones I have seen in a while).
But @ccslider has a point. $45k will net a nice, built 200. $45k is quite a lot for a nicely built 80.
Gorgeous truck though....GLWS!

To clarify - was the engine and transmission rebuilt or not?

The wording in the ad says "Mileage on rebuilt original engine and transmission - 25,000"

Seems like unnecessary confusion on really nice 80.

@shellb Alright here's more detail for whoever is reading this with interest.

The engine got hot when driving through Nevada in 2017 around 120F and the truck got to 220F for an extended period and the cause of this was due to an exhausted fan clutch(has been replaced with blue clutch). With the heat the head gasket developed a slight coolant leak into cylinder 6. I work for Volkswagen and have access to all necessary tools to do the job. I also had real professional help with a gentleman who had worked for Toyota of America as an QTM(Quality Tech Manager) for 20 years during the era of the 80 series. He knows his way around the trucks more then anyone on this site combine. I'm not dogging anyone but the guy is smart as hell. We pulled the head and sent it out to be resurfaced and measured. During that time we dropped the lower and upper oil pan to inspect the bearing caps. They measured out within spec with no visual odd wear on any cap. Cylinders look great as well. Were pistons pulled? No they weren't. Trucks cylinder pressure was tested before the head was pulled and found all healthy, saw a very slight loss in 6 at the time of the bad gasket. That's were we tested the coolant for carbon and found evidence of the head gasket issue. Tested cylinders after top end rebuild. All above spec. The engine is real healthy.

The transmission pan was dropped and inspected for wear. The fluid was red and clean. Pulled solenoids and replaced with filter and filled. This transmission shifts smooth. Has no issue with pull. Was given a green light for continued service.

What I forgot was this. All new internals for the transfer case have been replaced except for high end gears. While in there the Marlin crawler gears were installed. Another 1000 bucks plus I forgot to put down. American Overland Expeditions performed this service as I have little free time after the back breaking engine work.

Truck has been given nothing but real love.

@JAshley thanks...

Everyone has been very nice about your asking price so far. I think the reality is even if this was a true full drivetrain rebuild, you'd be doing pretty well if you got 50% of your asking price. Best of luck.

@Bludozer so 45k is not unreasonable if you account what real world cost would be to duplicate this truck. Over 60k easy.

Truck modifications around 45k all in. 30% depreciation for one year old equipment some things younger then that. 30% would be 13,500 off 45,000 which equals 31,500. Truck valve in current condition is near 11,000 lets say 10,000 for haggle sake.

That totals out to 41,500 which doesn't even include taxes or labor costs invested to make this thing roll.

Tax estimate on 45k at 10% is 4,500
Labor estimate is around 10,000 plus easy
Total to make this truck is realistically 56,000.00. That total also does not include small parts or miscellaneous components which just thinking about makes my head shake.

It is a 100% rust free California truck that has not evidence of hard wheeling or abuse. Iv'e had my fun but I like my investment a whole lot more then driving a trail with the risk of damage especially if I can drive the trail on my bike.

Like majority of vehicles it is a bad investment. But to purchase this at 45k is a win for the new owner. Ready to take you anywhere on the globe.

Totally agreed with your value assessment, however you can never expect to get mod/maintenance money back when selling. Thats not the way it works. The market has very nice examples with less than 200k miles built just like yours going for low 20s on the high end...

I hope you get your asking price as that means mine is worth way more than I thought but I dont think $45k is anywhere near realistic. Good luck.

The market dictates prices paid, but the seller decides if the ptice is fair and equitable. I’ve seen cruisers sell for way more than I thought possible. And I’ve seen others that I feel are priced fairly that sell for considerably less.

I hooe your get your price as that improves the market for everyone selling.

GLWS

Well sure. In the end, it's his truck and he will only sell it for an amount he is willing to accept in return for his vehicle. Why even post a for sale ad though if what you require to make a deal is completely unrealistic?

She's a beaut Clark...GLWS!

@ccslider yeah but the 200 is garbage couldn't run with this truck for a second. 80 was the last real Toyota made IMO. Thanks.

That’s a bit of an overstatement. I definitely wouldn’t say the 200 is “garbage.” For that kind of money, the only thing the 80 has on the 200 is a solid front axle.

Your photos here show the fender flares...but your Craigslist ad shows the rig with flares removed and fender liner painted in those areas. Would be good to have updated pictures at this price point.
