After several months looking for a replacement truck, I finally found one: a 1997 FZJ80 Collector's Edition with Factory Lockers.

After selling my 94 FZJ80, I looked around for a nice 3rd gen 4runner, but quickly realized it was an 80 that I really wanted. So I expanded my search to include 4runners and 80s. It seems that every 80 I looked at had seen better days. Finally, someone from the high desert area sent me a message that he was thinking about selling his, but hadn't listed it yet. A few hours later, after a few emails and phone calls, I was on my way, cash in hand, to go check it out. It was a 4 hour drive to get there, so I was hoping this was the one. Everything checked out on it, and soon I was driving it home. After 9 hours on the road, I pulled into my driveway at 3:30AM, exhausted.

I was in great condition and nicely built. Mods include:

FOR Generation II suspension
Adjustable panhard rods
Caster plates
Slee part-time kit
Slee extended brakelines
Regear to 4.88
315/75R16 Firestone Destination MT tires
CDL switch
Headgasket replaced and top end rebuilt
New Toyota early style (93/94) radiator
Die Hard Platinum battery
Extended diff breathers
Slee cup holder
and other stuff I am forgetting...

Need to get some sliders and skid plate before hitting the trails.

Here is a picture of the way I bought it:

Started the mods today. Installed the ARB bumper:

I still need to get the AC dryer skid plate before doing anything serious.

Installed the "drawers". Actually a toolbox. Originally had this on my Tundra, but it just happens to fit perfectly in the back of the 80, so I kept it.:

Do you need the ARB turn signal lenses? I saw they were missing in the photo.

I have a set I was going to post up for sale... let me know if you want them. I would rather sell them local.

I have some, just need to install them. Thanks for the offer!

Sweet rig, what size tires are those? Nice storage solution....

Can't wait to see it rolling around SD.

315s (just under 35")

Sweet ride you scored there Eric. Hurry and armor up so we can hit the trails!

Sweet find!!!

Good to see you found a new ride. One question, what is attached to the air cleaner and then to the intake?

Nice Christmas present. Outstanding rig. I look forward to wheeling with you soon.

All the best, Steve

Nice score Eric! That thing is clean, I like it. I'll have that armor for you when you're ready. Looks good!

Very cool!! Looks like a beauty!

Thanks guys. Cant wait to hit the trails.

Really nice ride and some great mods to start with... FYI the ipor skid is about 2-3 weeks out and they have 15 of the 40 batch sold already...
