I am debating adding some badging to my tailgate. Different model variations had different badging across regions. Wanted your opinion on it.

A brand new HZJ79 from Toyota Gibraltar comes with this "4WD" logo.

I have seen "4.2 Diesel" on the lower left of Pickup tailgates and Troopy door hatches.

And then I also really like this "Toyota 4wd" logo. It fits really well in the space.

Shout-out to @ToyotaMatt for the cool badging: OEM NON-USA TOYOTA 4WD Side Door Badges BADGE FJ60 FJ62 FZJ80 FJ80 FZJ70 BJ70 - VintageTEqParts.com - https://vintageteqparts.com/products/oem-non-usa-toyota-4wd-side-door-badges-badge

What do you guys think? Maybe "4.2 Diesel" in the lower left corner and Matt's "Toyota 4WD" badge in the lower right?
I simply have the small 4WD decal. 😊

I'm also thinking about relocating my spare tire. Because I have a second fuel tank under the bed, Toyota placed the spare tire against the back of the cab behind the driver.

But I would like to add a toolbox into the truck. My old Tacoma had a crossover toolbox and I loved it. I used it all the time and kept a ton of stuff in it - hand tools, utility knife, breaker bar, jack, air compressor, bug spray, sun block, water, soap, TP, clean clothes, work gloves, oil, paper towels, first aid, etc. I could have lived out of that truck if I needed to. It was a great bugout vehicle.

@Hondu moved his spare tire closer to the tailgate and I'm thinking about doing the same thing. This frees up space to mount a toolbox against the back of the cab.

You basically just pull the mount off the back of the cab and mount it on the side of the bed.

What do you guys think?

Been thinking of this too. Project for this winter will be to build a rear bumper with a tire swing out carrier
I thought about a swing out myself. But I found the swing out to be a pain on my 80 series. Just too much trouble to get into the back.

…but they look awesome.

I totally get that, but I need the room if I want to seriously build out the back of the bed for a camper

Dang! A camper build would be cool as hell!

I’ve got what you need : 79 rear bumper from South Africa brand Outback Extreme with double wheels carriers. Soon it will be in the JDM classied...

x2 on the swing-out. I tried mounting a spare in my 45 like that (vertical, back of the bed) and it would never stay put, esp. on wash-boarded roads. The bottom would walk away from the bedside. Granted, it was a 37, a lot of mass. And I didn't want to drill into the side of the bed, so just made a sort of hook that went over the bed-rail and pulled the wheel/tire up against the side.

Any updates? Link?

While perhaps not the best option, re-locating the spare tire to an over-the-cab roof rack, is an option none the less. 😊

I ran out to @bottombracket’s shop this morning and he hooked me up with a OEM Toyota “4WD” decal he had laying around. Score!

After work I rushed home and slapped it on. I think it turned out great! Thanks Galen!
