Anyone interested in the early model LHD evap (pre 2007, 88510-60510) you should but it sooner than later. They won't be around forever and my source (Onur) said that he believes the all in one fan/ac evaps will not fit in earlier trucks (88510-6A440). 60510 were out of stock for a few years and may have had a second production run but who knows how many.....

Edit: I misremembered. PartsOUQ and ToyoDIY list two part numbers for my VIN. Both the cooler box assembly and the evaporator are listed but I can't figure out which part number is right for my '90 hzj75 aus troopy, and I can't find the parts in stock anywhere.
When I punch the part numbers for the evaporator into fleabay I get no direct matches - just a tantalizing list of inexpensive evaporators for other Toyotas.

In a week I'll have my rig back and just enough time to attempt to install my AC system before making a baja run. At this point I think I've given up and will just try to clean and reuse the evaporator in my existing cooler box. I have a replacement pressure switch and expansion valve ready to go in.

I’m dumb. I ordered a brand new Toyota evaporator assembly. For some reason, I assumed it had domestic #10 and #6 o-ring fittings. I kept trying to mock-up the soft lines and couldn’t get the fittings to thread on. I finally realized the obvious: “These are metric fittings.”
I don’t think I damaged anything, but the #6 male fitting on the evaporator is swiveling on the hardline (hopefully it does not leak).
I need to order new fittings to adapt from the male metric M22 and M16 o-ring fittings on the evaporator to the #10 and #6 o-ring fittings on the soft lines. It looks like it will be another week.
However, I did manage to direct-wire and test my new Rockford Fosgate 4” speakers to the 80s Modern Tech radio.
I was able to get the right speaker installed. But I ran out of time to remove the instrument cluster and install the left speaker.
Sorry for the terrible tunes, it was what was on the FM dial when I keyed on the ignition.

ah, was wondering if they came with all the hangers from the factory and just used what was needed. that's one thing that needs to be moved if one was doing a rhd to lhd swap.

I've been watching all this a/c tech with interest. I've just bought a 1997 HZJ75 pickup in France that came with no a/c.
I bought a complete a/c kit from @joekatana and I'm hoping it bolts right in. We'll see. I may be contacting @Will Van for some intel when I get around to the install. Meantime, I'll continue to spy on this thread.

Have you looked through my build? I installed one of Joeries kits under the dash, had to do some modding. But mine is a 85 so don’t know if it much different from a 97 in this regard

I thought transitioning from the metric evaporator fittings to the conventional crimp-on soft lines would be fairly simple - just find some metric to crimp fittings and we’re back in business.
Unfortunately, one of the metric fittings was a very odd size - M24 x 1.5 thread pitch. Most M24 A/C fittings are 2.0 thread pitch. I scoured the internet and could not find anyone that carried that size fitting.
At that point, I decided to just cut off the metric fittings and have my fabricator weld on some conventional #10 and #6 aluminum o-ring fittings.
I am going to order some more insulation, flush all the lines, reassemble the evaporator, and put a vacuum on it. Then it’s time to fill with refrigerant and run it!

theres some debate for long term, but really only requires a flush of r12/oil and a dryer thats either new or was running r134. oh and the 134 style charge fittings, which are simply a screw on deal.
Generally want to replace the expansion valve as well because you can't actually flush it like you do the other equipment.
Some of the debate about all that conversion rides the line of best practice vs overkill.
You have a good performing conversion, so I'll chalk your recommendation to a best practice.
I probably was borderline best practice vs. overkill with my conversion... and my compressor still ended up dying after a few months. But it was old. And the prevailing wisdom was that an old compressor being converted, while oils may be compatible, was a gamble.

I am debating adding some badging to my tailgate. Different model variations had different badging across regions. Wanted your opinion on it.
A brand new HZJ79 from Toyota Gibraltar comes with this "4WD" logo.
I have seen "4.2 Diesel" on the lower left of Pickup tailgates and Troopy door hatches.
And then I also really like this "Toyota 4wd" logo. It fits really well in the space.
