A quick update. I was dealing with quite a bit of t-case shifter buzz. I tried a few different solutions but completely solved it by doing the following:

1. Removed upper and lower boots.
2. I installed a rubber washer behind the 17mm nut at the base of the shifter and re-installed the nut.
3. I took two 2" rubber exhaust donuts and slid them down right under the shifter gate.
4. I then took a piece heater hose and slid down shifter until it met the exhaust rings.
5. Reinstalled the boots.

Zero rattle. Essentially just utilizing leftover exhaust job parts and heater hose to act as an absorber.

Was amazing how quiet it was on the interior of an operating FJ40. Never experienced this before!

Fall colors in full effect....

Pics or it didn't happen!

Quick trip out to dinner and some groceries. Just a blast to drive.

After being parked for a few weeks I get a “wub wub wub” until I get 5-10 miles down the road. These specialty tires, while vintage and add to the look, are very susceptible to flat spots. Those first miles are pretty annoying until they heat up.

Weather finally nice here, so doing some spring cleaning. I cycled new brake fluid through (was dark in the cups) brakes and clutch and added some new loot to the cruiser.

A mud member and long time friend gifted this slick Toyota Motor tool box to me and with my tool roll under the driver seat still NOS in plastic, I wanted to start collecting tools I could actually USE without any guilt. So I'll snag a tool when they pop up inexpensive. I used some anti-slide tool box drawer lining inside the box, and a slab of it behind the driver seat, so the box stays put.

Also from a mud-member and friend, was able to snag this carb adjustment set. Very cool.

Fresh fluids. Just need to detail the engine bay from dust and so on.

the @dmaddox Nation awaits ...!

Thank you! In NY you are able to use a vintage plate, so long as the vehicle year is from that era of NY plate. So, I sought out to find a set of 70’s vintage plates and I found these. I liked 78 for obvious reasons, but the NAN is what ever we want it to be! I found this set on ebay for 40$ The NY DMV validate the plates and you’re good to go. About as “personalized “ of a plate as I could find. 78 North American?

I grew up in Williamsville and I remeber those plates! Gorgeous rig, of course I am biased as I have a ‘78 as well, best year👍

One thing I will add....on these tires. I went with this tire, because its a vintage-looking (pretty close to dunlop snowcruiser) and looks like it belongs. However...grumble, grumble. What an unstable, flat-spot hungry, horrible under braking, scary over 50mph tire! I am highly contemplating a modern radial...these tires are so unbearable. Vintage, yes....but a terrible all-around tire. Open to suggestions, here...

⬆️ Great feedback, I have been eyeing these for a few years and even talked/visited the manufacture (close by)-now don't know if I will be going with these 😥 but love the vintage look . I'll just have to stick with what I have

Ahh the great tire debate…
I’ll sit out the suggestion portion but will say good for you for putting form after function here.

Again, don’t get me wrong. They look awesome for a correct 1978 restoration. Even the stampings on the side walls and tread pattern is perfect for the year. However, unless you have tire cradles and spend 95% of your time in the mud or off-road these are not the tire for you.

Search 225/75R15, I would pick something you like the look of. They will all ride 10x better than a bias ply.

Here’s what discount tire has in that size. I have the open country A/T on my Sequoia it has been a good tire.

Okay, I'll take the bait...

Thank you :flipoff2:
