Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knows where to find info on option codes for a 78 FJ40. I have a sticker on the inside of my glovebox lid with an 842 code on it. I have serched everywhere and have found nothing. THANKS!!

sounds like a color code to me. See if it matches the VIN plate on the driver side.

AFAIK, there were really no option codes, but my 78 fj55 has a sticker in the glove box with some codes....one if them is the color code

a 78 fj40 would have had no factory options, they came one way(cept for color) from japan, anything added was at the port, dealer or PO. 79+ had AC and PS as options, AFAIK there is no code for these or anyway to tell from a VIN

Options Codes on my 77 FJ40

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I found this thread while looking for the meaning of my option codes I found this afternoon while cleaning her up. I just had never noticed or looked at the sticker very closely. My option codes are 842 880 611 859. I don't think these are color related, my truck is Mustard 532.

this is old as hell but did anyone ever find information on this. Also im ding to know what a 646 is.

Old, but mine has 842, 880. Original color Freeborn Red 309.

Could be port options codes, warn hubs, winch, etc? Mine is a 77. Not sure what the port options were from the dealer.

Have a contact at Toyota--just send a msg to her to see if they have any info on the codes-will report back the results--

Toyota will tell you 'sorry we do not have the information that you are looking for'

it is a PIO 'port installed options' sticker .... POE is 'port of entry'

it has nothing to do with color or trim... that was factory... these are things added at port like radio, antenna, snow tires, winter coatings

it also showed the port workers what truck to load them on... were loaded in order to unload at destinations

From the window sticker thread, the right column lists optional equipment. No codes or indication of which are factory, port or dealer installed. 'Calif Emissions Requirements' is also listed as Optional equipment on other stickers.

From various threads the PIO sticker codes include 880 842 811 859. The PIO sticker photos posted have been limited to 1976-77, although the OP indicates 78 as well.

Out the door at $6277.35 - ouch for that period . Similar trucks were around $1500 less , give or take a few bucks . It's nice to note that the invoice included the engine serial - that can be great documentation to find in verifying originality .

That's only $25,000 in today's dollars. A bargain for one of the most bad ass vehicles ever produced.

646 dates back to an old thread in chat.
The dudes wife was out of town for weekend and he had compiled a list of things that he could do. He then put the list up for public opinion.
Items 6,4and 6 again was the winning combination.
Iirc it involved drinking beer and jerking off.

Things got even worse when Toyota introduced the mini 4X4 truck in 79 with it's better gas mileage four cylinder engine. It was all about corporate gas mileage with average of all vehicles sold. @Landpimp has literature back from the early eighties when Toyota dropped the swb from the US market and how the price was not that far off from what a 60 series was priced. I remember someone commenting how Toyota dropped the 40 series because they couldn't sell. Hard to do when it was priced twice the price of a CJ.
