Got the 4th spring.

Vacuumed and wiped out some of Jarbidge that came back inside the pig. Needs a real bath.

Mostly it’s decent shape:
- runs and stops (now… brakes were “sometimes”/double pump)
- 4wd works (had to repair the shifter in Meridian)
- rear window works (cylinder and switch!)
- seems to hold a charge

Series of crap to fix:

- wants a manifold gasket. (I happen to be a 2F header manufacturer, so… it gets a stainless 2F header…)
- exhaust has rust holes (Replacement will not be as fancy as on Batpig.)
- there is what appears to be a factory heat shield outside the frame rail on the DS but I have no idea.
- at least one brake slave cylinder leaks and wants a rebuild. Will probably replace the shoes during.
- the lift (see below) will probably want extended brake lines
- seems to want to pressurize the fuel tank for some reason. see: Pressurized FJ55 gas tank - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/pressurized-fj55-gas-tank.1203414/#post-15565236 for details (I have the latest list there).
- DS hub leaks
- horn doesn’t work. Could be the follower, could be a relay.
- front fender-mounted markers don’t work (seems like broken wires)
- speedometer doesn’t work. No idea. Cable? Gear? Speedo head?
- PB holds, but I’d like it to engage earlier. Probably just adjustment.

- I should tear into the front hubs and replace at least the seals, but that’s likely to snowball
- we all know it will need bearings too…
- “Synchro” hubs want to be AISIN/ASCO
- and maybe it wants disc brakes. Idk.

Then it’s on to the nonsense/fun/easy stuff:
- shifter is kinda loose. Maybe a bushing, maybe the cap/top is worn. Haven’t checked.
- no radio, speakers or antenna, but the doors have holes for speakers
- no inner boot for the transfer case
- outer transfer case boot is torn
- interior rear view mirror is in the glove compartment
- dome light doesn’t work
- key cylinders don’t lock/unlock the doors (knobs do tho)
- second row window mechanisms don’t work
- windows rattle (maybe missing rubber)
- column surround has seen better days
- wheel could be cosmetically nicer
- needs door & cargo area cards
- only one set of keys
- windshield washer nozzle MIA, no idea if the pump works
- seat bottom to second row is MIA (well, it’s in Meridian) and there is carpet over the mechanism in the floor that holds in in-place. Cable ordered from SOR. Will ship the seat bottom to me soon.
- second row seat back won’t lock in-place. Adjustment of the towers is planned but I’ve heard this is a bitch
- torsion rod for the tailgate is broken or MIA.
- cowl vents or maybe just operating rods are MIA
- 2 of 3 of the little knobs on the heater controls are MIA
- whole foot locker of parts that I’ve not investigated. I know the cargo vents are in there, no idea if I have the covers
- heater vent is floppy
- dash is cracked but I have a good one, … somewhere
- might change the plugs/wires/cap after I determine which year of distributor it has. Points and condensor too (if it has points, LOL.)
- trimeki is making a replacement 36 gal fuel tank, so maybe this truck gets that
- found a Corbeau seat frame in Buena Vista, and I have a set of spare Scheelmann seats. Maybe I mod the frame and mount those and a Tuffy console and have heated buckets…
- needs a jack and toolkit. (Came with a hi-lift.)
- it’s a 74, so no PS
- cosmetics under the hood could be improved
- the 255/85R16 spare doesn’t fit well under the truck. Probably going to mount it in the cargo area
- zero sound deadening

Otherwise:

3pt seat belts ordered from Seatbelt Planet

Dobinsons lift has arrived, so that wants installed

One of the POs installed a body lift, and then put an air filter (not kidding) between the tank and body, presumably to keep the tank in-place… so I’ll be removing the body lift and the air filter. Going to order from 4crawler.com but I need to see if I have the different heights or not.

I have an AC setup for it in Austin that doesn’t have a home. Probably wants to be converted to r142a though.

Well shoot, that ain’t good.
Just expensive. Nobody got hurt. I’d hoped it was a turbo return line but then I crawled under it and saw the window.

I was going to take the 80 to SAS #8 in a few weeks, (it’s their “year of the 80”), but now that’s not happening.

So.. Time to get this pig ready for SAS. I know it has a leaking wheel cylinder and a minor radiator leak on the DS. The DS hub leaks a bit as well. I should solve the “gas comes back out the filler neck” thing.

I have a lift to install if I get that far.

Wife was behind me in the pig. Says it’s very hard to see through the taillight lenses. I don’t know what’s going on but they’re not really transparent. I have new lens gaskets from @SLOCRUISER, just need new lenses.

Biggest annoyance is that the 80 now occupies the lift. Well, millions of brake jobs have been done without a lift. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That had to make some noise. A rod snapping, etc. Sad to think about, but has to be major damage in there. Too much turbo, maybe.

It still rotates and doesn’t make any of that kind of noise. Long ago on this engine there was a cracked snout pulley. They replaced the snout piece but I’m wondering if the damage went a little deeper.

It’s weird.
