How are you able to leave the garage? I'd setup a bed in there, TV, fridge, and just stare at it. Totally freakin' amazing man.

Ground Up,
those small side windows in the rear of the top? I know that there've been several variations in FSTops but I've never seen a picture of one with those. Is it your original top?

If I don't get it done that is where my wife is going to make me sleep.

The funny part is as I would refurbish parts they would get stored in differnet parts of the house. I think at one time I had about everything but the frame and body in the house. Oh, it didn't go over real good!

Thanks for the compliments. How is the troopy going?

The top I got from rickd. For those of you that don't know him, he is a extremely versed LC guy and spent a ton of time researching and getting patterns to make a small run (I think it was 3) of these tops. They are about as close to perfect originals as I think you can get.

The rear windows were a part of the top on the 1972 models. They went at least into 1974. As can be seen in the photos from the factory lit. The rear opening changed around the 9/72 model, when the footman loops were added to the corner of the tub. And a shift in the tailgate footman loops went from 6 to 4.

I have a 10/72 production that has the footman loops on the tub and the 4 footman loop tailgate.

The first pic is from the 1972 Factory Literature and the second is from the 9/73 Literature.

HTH....

The paint I had the painter use was The Concept Line by PPG. He wanted to use a lower grade line, but I didn't want to have to redo anything later on just for saving a couple hundred bucks in paint qaulity.

Good choice...I just did a little squirting of that last weekend myself on the 62 that my 16 yr old daughter is beginning to drive :whoops: Had a little rust bubble action starting along the rain gutter and I needed to kill it off early. That stuff goes on nice, blends well, and I have been happy with shine, durability and trail pin stripping buffs out easily.

I better quit coming back and looking at what you did....gives me crazy ideas...although I am glad to see that I am not the only one that hasn't gotten around to painting the door trim in the garage either

That is next on the list after I get the 40 done. I am going to finish the walls do a top to bottom cleaning and then epoxy the floor. I just can't park that thing in such a partial looking garage :-).........Hey if you get a chance could you shoot a pic of your transfer case shift boot on your truck.

Thanks in Advance!

Ken, I felt the same way last night at the meeting...I couldn't leave. I just wanted to stay in there and sniff that oiled canvas and stare at it all night.

So, Marc, since you have to let the air out of the tires to get it in and out of the garage, you should just park it on display out front on that burm you just finished. Chop down that evergreen and park it up there on display, of course you'd have to get a glass case made for it, and install a vacuum system to keep oxygen out, and make sure the glass has a UV blocker on it...maybe a moat and some sharks with "frickin laser beams on their heads."

You have done an absolutely beautiful job. I couldn't stop staring at those pics last night. My girlfriend had to turn off the computer :o Great job.

Will do...mine is not in the best of shape.....a little "airy" if you know what I mean. But I do believe it is the original.

Here is a so-so pick of the tcase shift boot. Complete with some age related air slits.

Way Cool!

Thank You!!!!!!!!

That is what I was thinking it looked like. I am going to do one more search thru all of the parts I have set aside and if I cannot find it. Otherwise I think I will have to do a reproduction model. Still can't believe that there are not any out there. I think I have talked to all of the LC parts places in the country to no avail.

Doesn't SOR have repro boots ? Or are you in need of the ring as well ?

He needs the ring too. And an FJ55 boot ring is not the same, there is a different curve to the tranny hump. If I'd have known Marc needed one I'd have robbed the one off of my '73 before I sold it.

Hmmm...we should be able to turn one up for him on this board....if not he can use mine as a pattern to get one fab'd up.

Cool!
They may have gone away from the small rear side windows with the advent of ambulance doors. The top for amby door models wraps around each side door frame support and hinge mount and closes with a set of snaps on each side. Because of the door then there's be no room for that window. No need of footman loops on the half door either.
I first thought that the lack of those windows was due to mine not being a US issue cruiser.

The transfer boot is supposed to have a string tie. 1977, anyway:

I thought I would update this thread. I have been waiting for the tailgate and the hood since early September. I was told that I should get them by the end of the week. I am really looking forward to getting it done. I wrapped up some misc. odds and ends. Greased all of the fittings and took her out yesterday for a drive around the block. Everthing went great and the thing runs like a champ.

I started making a punchlist of items that need attention.

Here are a couple of pics from yesterday.
