Usually they fall right off. Is yours held on by bolts, a bolt and a stud or two studs? Could your starter drive gear be hung up on the flywheel ring gear? Maybe try rocking the vehicle back and forth in gear? I'd probably just start by whacking the starter with a big mallet a few times and see if it comes loose but that's just how I do things.Something is hung up and it won't release. Any one have history of removing a starter on a 73 FJ40?
