I just found a SWB 45 with the removeable top. I am trying to decide what to do with it. I am a bit cautious about spending 10k for a OEM restoration.

Pro- It also has a Ramsey PTO, the 100% original drivetrain, and original seats. Another plus is that it is 100% rust free.

Con- bad front fenders due to dents and metal cracks at edge. Crappy wiring gremlins, worn clutch, Steering needs rebuilt

Missing items : fr and rr turn signals, lens covers in apron, wiper arms, chrome trim piece in hood. It is missing the bed and tailgate. it has the flatbed "farmer" option. No stocker headache rack. Missing running boards.

Maybe folks can post pics of their SWB 45's for idea generation?

I can post pics later....

thanks

Aaron

missing the bed is a big problem.

sounds like a $3K or so 45....not ANYPLACE close to 10K, or do you mean you can get a resto for 10K? if so.......let me know where, I got about 10K in my 45 and its still in need of a resto

short beds never had a headache rack, just the long beds

Restoration

hey Pimp- Yes I am afraid of spending 10k on it and not being done. I agree it 's value isn't close to 10k.

I heard you can get a new swb truck bed for 2k. Agree?

Another $800 for a tailgate. I can find fenders, lights locally.

But the bed and tailgate are my main concerns.

I am surprised this was moved. It still says 45 on the main forum...

thanks

Aaron

ron can get you the lights also. for tailgate, the work eshan has done looks beautiful.

here's my 45 shorty

Hey Aaron, how's it going? You liking Spokane better than Mormonville?

If it's a farmer rig and a farmer price, buy it, SOA, forget about the bed, and wheel the snot out of it.

Aaron! It sounds like krap. Buy it and give it to me.

Fj45

I bought it guys. thanks for all the help. I may buy one of those new beds but first I need to work on the basics.

I will have a long list of things to buy

Hey Dan G- yes we love Spokane, WA. Boise is nice but I didn't enjoy the stigma of being from Seattle, WA and living in Meridian, ID. If I were to do it over again I would have bought a home by you in Boise, ID.

I will post up some pics later today.

Aaron

send me a pm if you want to come up and and look at mine
I'm about 1/2 hr into BC from the truck crossing. I can get one of those boxes ready for you to bring back to the US if you like them. It would save you 300 to $400 on shipping/packaging
front lights are easy to get, steering and other parts are not too hard either
go with an aluminum storage tailgate, it comes in really handy and is a cheaper way to go.

I've never seen SWB with a headache rack. Rust free parts are nice and most signals and fenders need to be replaced anyways so I don't think you're doing too bad so far.

Yeah, just a bunch of pot-smokin' hippies in my neighborhood, Seattle transplants blend right in.

So, get busy and post up some pictures!

cool :) but I hope it wasn't anyplace near 10K........

Fj45 Swb

Here are three pics. I have awful lighting in my garage.

This thing was dirt cheap. $300

I am a bit concerned that it may be too far gone to build on a budget. $5000 (thanks to all and Mud Guppie- I may buy a bed and tailgate but need to progress slow as the FJ40 was just done. This beast bumped my wife's 80 from the garage so I need to be careful, I just got the "pull up low altitude warning...

Here's what I will need in the near term..

The front signals and fenders
stock front bumper
front bib lenses
wiring trouble shooting?
stock tires, wheels, and hubcaps.
brake job?
clutch job?
steering refresh?

The tub and top are slightly dented or dinged up but I can't find rust. I went through it close. I guess I should sandblast the tub and top, followed by prime and paint to preserve the best part on this truck.

You can never go wrong on a $300.00 FJ45...I can't believe you even had to ask, hesitate or think about that!

I moved it, cause this is where all the guys that have the info you need hang out........more specific action here...
Sweet find.
Want double your money back?

If I didn't already have may more projects than a one-man shop should take on, I'd harass you with a better offer than Texican. I know better than to even joke about such things anymore. That's how the stable ended up where it's at!

I remember you asking a million questions about 45s before you picked this up. If you sell this thing, you will regret it FOREVER! That is unless you're just another capitalist. Take it slow and build it up as a keeper. Nothing on your list is unobtanium. Patience will be the key. And it will keep the wife happier.

:)

If you don't want the project I have a club member that's dying for a 45 project and I promise it'd be a better home than Texican and 65swb! :)
if you keep it your gonna have fun regardless.. Take your time, research, do it once and do it right.
Your list is short compared to most of ours..
start with the axles and brakes, then move upwards is my advice..
Marks off road sells a nice adapter to put a booster on the older firewalls. Fenders, lights etc are easy.. Get a new bumper and an aqualu rear bed and your darn near done..

it'd make a nice partner for my 45 ;) ...besides, project vehicles fit in at my home almost as well as they do at treeroots

Meaning the "capitalists" are bad?

Keep the truck. No way you should ever sell a $300 FJ45 unless youre ordered to do so by the wifey.
