What about the sway bar links? Will they not need to be extended 2" bc of the 2" lift in suspension? Also, the shocks are in bind now with the axle so far forward. Is that normal? Will that be a problem? It is hard to imagine the axle moving that far back once loaded. If you measure, it looks like it could only move back one inch?

....

It is fine.

You do not have any load on the suspension, and the leaf springs are at full droop, which, because they are anchored at the front and are attached to a shackle in the rear, (and a longer one at that, which again, is installed upside down) it is permitting the rear axle to swing forward. The axles on leaf spring vehicles do not travel strait up and down, but rather in an arc, and are limited (and exaggerated because of the longer shackle in your case) in this travel by the shackle. And, unless you plan on getting air under the vehicle (jumping it), this is a non-factor.

When you have everything else done; body on the frame, interior installed, engine installed, front and rear bumpers installed, etc, THEN go back under the truck and attach your anti-sway bar. You will find that it will be very close to where it needs to be and that your wheels will be where they were supposed to be.

and....

Do the sway bars after everything is done. Also I still reccoemend worrying about the alignment once you have the weight on the springs per spec.

As Steve and Bull said you should be fine on your rear end.

I know for my sway bar i extended my links 3 - 4 inches as i lifted it that much.

Hey there!!! Glad to see you're making good progress on your LV! I better make some progress or else you're going to pass me up! :O j/k

Yeah, I had the same thought when I re-installed my rear suspension in the LV.....I even put 10-50lb bags of concrete on the rear end just to see if it lined-up with some weight on it....sure did.

Looking great!

You're missing about 3000lbs right now.
Revisit this muuuuuch later.

Poser is right on with this.

I've personally seen two trucks lifted this way, neither had problems.

Reverse your shackles; but, that's not part of the problem.

This is going back a page but I like to polish my valve cover and paint the letters using a Q-tip and then clear coating it. Check out the pics. The red is freeborn.

ok i will hold off on this for now, gladly. just for kicks i think i will winch the rear end down just to see it, then i will sleep at night, ha ha. shackles have been reversed as well. i have located all new JIS bolts which will have to be yellow zinc plated, but my guy will do more than i can thro at him for a $75.00 min. will post that later. thanks for all the help with my suspension stuff. mmcinnis thanks for the valve cover post as well. CCJ, i would not worry too much about me passing you, you are very good at this stuff as evidenced by your work. i am severely handicaped but muddle thru it. ;)

Here's some pictures of the rear suspension of my '67 LV. This is using the stock springs and stock length shackles. The only weight on the springs is the chassis c/w drivetrain (3B engine, H41 tranny and 3 speed transfer case) and the bare body (no doors, glass seats or anything else).

If you need more information just let me know.

You said "muddle" on 'Mud! :)

Thats great.....don't know why, but that makes me laugh.

The LVEEE is looking awesome! I've acutally run out of fundage on the LV project, and until my FJ40 and Mercedes sell.....my LV is sidelined.

Until I get going again on mine....I'll keep drooling on yours!

Hope you're doing well!!

Cruiserguy....Just to let you know, you're missing the rubber -bump-stops that bolt onto the axles (via the u-bolts).....thats what hits the flat sides of the upper-stop.

I'll try and find a pic and PM you.

I'll add those to my "wish list". The truck was a mess when I got it so it doesn't really surprise me. A picture would be nice.

CCJ, i totally understand about the cash, i too am nearing the end of my current cash flow and when the parts run out, i will have to wait. i have been thinking about selling my extra LV to help fund the current LV, but i am afraid if i sold it, there would be something i needed off of it or a question since mine is in pieces. duh.

cruiser guy, those bump stops are available new from MAF and i do not recall them being too expensive. one of mine was broken, but you are welcome to the one i have if you are ever in ATL.

ATLAS, here is a pic of my PS pump.

Part number or a link?

I am in the middle of resealing engine with complete gasket kit. Should I be installing a new oil pump at this time? Engine is a 2F out of 1978 FJ55 with 135K miles on it. Engine ran well before we pulled it, but I have no history on it etc. What do you guys think?

It's more important that the dizzy engage the oil pump so it actually works!! :)

I admittedly know little about this stuff. My engine looks like it was rebuilt recently? When we disassembled it for resealing etc. the insides look like new. But the valves were not adjusted very well so who knows. Is there any way to know if an oil pump is new or not worn out? Or is it just something that I should replace no matter what? Again, I have no clue so go easy. Thanks.

Also, can anyone tell me where they have bought brake lines for their LV's or will I have to make them?
