Ok, a little progress but mostly sorting stuff out and asking questions. Can you experts tell me what kind of dizzy this is? I bought the Ignighter II conversion kit and coil from Marks Off Road and he said this is what I needed for the dizzy, but that was long ago and I forgot what he said. duh. So any advice would be appreciated. Can I buy a new Vacuum assembly? And is it advance or retard? Do I need a new vacuum assembly? Do they go bad? SOR only shows used one?

Should these parts be yellow zinc plated?

They do not look like they were from the factory. But not sure how to restore them? They are off the front disc assembly. The third pic is one of the hose brackets off the disc assembly. They were definitely yellow, has anyone had these replated? Do the platers just plug the openings so yellow dichromate does not get on the insides? ATLASX?

Rear disc set up

Rear disc setup and mangled brake lines. I did not think I would be using the original lines so like an idiot I did not try to preserve them, yea I know stupid. Because they would have worked or definitely would have made good templates. So now I get to re-mangle them buy using old pics, just to have them for templates. But from what I can see, they look like std. 40 style. And the from lines off my parts rig 40 are what I need up front.

So are '55 mirrors also used on the FJ45LV?
 
Yes they are the same. They were available new two years ago.

OK, I guess I need to order up another set! I've got one set on order from Toyota right now for the '55 because they are beginning to break. I had always thought that the FJ45LV had a fender mounted rear view mirror, at least that's how pictures on treeroot's site look.

Yes they did do a fender mounted mirror also. I too have seen some pics but personally I like the chrome ones better so that is what I decided to go with. I would imagine the others would tend to be quite shaky.

CCJ, thanks for the tech help. Your tip worked perfectly and saved me some $. The pump appears to work fine.

Seal kit arrived this week, but we found that the oil pan is bent beyond repair :frown: so I had to order a new/used one from Cruiserparts.net. Should arrive next week and we will finish putting everything back together.

Could use some help with some of the questions I posted above tho. :)

Also, one other question. I installed the rear disc kit which uses a mid 80's Monte Carlo caliper. I need longer brake lines than what came with the kit. The MC calipers use a banjo fitting. Can you convert a banjo fitting to a female fitting like those on a cruiser by just going straight into the caliper or would a later model line from an 80 series or what ever model that uses the banjo fitting work? I know that the hard lines are 10mm, just don't know about the banjo end. Here is a pic of the lines sent with the kit. I would like to use braided SS which I bought from MAF.

Worked a couple of hours today.

Continued to mock-up the rear brake lines for the rear disc. I can say bending brake lines is definitely not difficult and pretty forgiving. I used the old lines which gave me a beginning point and then straightened and re-bend etc. I figured worse case I could use these as the patterns which could be sent to Classic Tube. I was very surprised at how forgiving the lines were considering I was really wailing on them. I found that if you can lock the fitting in the vise, you can use the fitting to help straighten the old line. What I don't know is when are lines tool old to use and what makes them not safe? The old lines have no rust and were actually painted black. One of the pics shows how I am going to bolt the old transition brackets to the back of the disc bracket. I also removed two lines from my old donor 40 which will work for my 45 firewall.

I'd be concerned about stress fractures due to work hardening of the tube. My plan is new tubing bent and double flared professionally (I've tried flaring and it doesn't seem to work for me [it always splits] so double flares are out of the question on brakes).

What do you mean by "hardening"? I bought a double flare tool and it works very well and was fairly easy to do. You may want to try it. I was planning on all new lines, but had second thoughts when I saw that these were in such good shape. I just did not want to throw away something that was serviceable, but I also do not want to risk the safety of my family etc. I was reading previous posts last night and from what I read, new steel line material is pretty cheap, but for $180.00 Classic Tube will reproduce lines if you send them yours.
