I use all over the place in fact every nut, screw and bolt that touches paint or powder coat has a washer between the paint.

I can see where this would work nice for ornamental and non-structural components, but I would not do this with fasteners that are used in a structural application. Sounds like a really easy way for something to work loose, and create issues.

If the paint or powder coat is cured, it will not distort.

Looks fantastic Matt!!

Gettin' any of that snow storm?

No structural areas, I am talking all trim pieces door hinges and such. If you are using OEM harware they have a Bolt with a lock washer and then a flat washer bihind that. If the THIN Nylon washer is on the paint side the lock washer does it's job.

Besides if you want to use a thread locker you could, But I use a small amount of anti sieze. and it's only an idea for a restoration that has and does work for me.

Paint takes longer to cure than we think, unless a booth with bake cycle is used.

Best, Shane

I was told once that it wasn't a good idea to even wax new paint for at least six months because it takes that long for it to cure. He mentioned one year would be better  I asked it that was the old stuff like lacquers and he said no, the new paints need more time.

Does anyone know if that was true?

I hope this isn't a hijack but Matt is at paint and this thread has a ton of info already.

Looks wonderful Matt!

First of all, I've been following this thread for a long time now and tune in every day for the next installment! I drive a newer tacoma but have always dreamt of a 45 shortbed truck (hasn't everyone?).

As for paint curing times, I know when we take delivery of a new fire engine they say not to wax it for a year and to take special care when washing it to use a soft bristled brush as the paint takes about that long to fully cure...

Second, I am new to mud and support everyone here. After being told about this site I joined and started clicking every link and found this thread and was in shock. I grabbed my beverage of choice and started at the begining with the pictures of the FJ45 on the trailer and the snow plow. I quick read everythihng and stared at every pic like it was the last, taking in all the information I could. I was thinking my tech's will not believe this (Toyota Tech's) As I showed them they were in disbelief. It's like a Toyota Mini Series training course. I just want to be invited to the New Owner orentation on this one!.

Yes Matt, you have the drive to get this done and not take 3 years. Thats a love and passion that most don't have.......Hell, I am Anal but dont have the conviction you do!

Keep up the good work Matt and please post more picts............

No work on the lv tonight, had to fire up the sewing factory again. Sorta got roped into a job ;)

Some of you might remember about 2 months ago my upholstery project. Basiclly myself, the wife and her parents taking on our first attempt at upholstery. I thought it turned out pretty good, so good I thought I would bring in one of my bucket seats to work the next week to show all my co-workers. Needless to say they were all impressed (as was I) that they turned out that nice for a first try.

Now some of you might remember a pic or 3 last year of my frame up on a forklift while I beat dirt out of it prior to washing. In the back ground you might remember seeing some heavy equipment, ag related stuff, semi's, etc....Well Ace hardware is also Roseau Farm Service, a Case/IH - Ford/New Holland dealer. We also have a fairly large heavy equipment service dept. that works on everything from Tractors to Trac hoe's to bulldozers.

Anyway, on Wed. our service dept. had a Hesston Bi-directional tractor/loader in for service. The seat was pretty tore up and it was a fairly new unit. The owner said to have a new seat installed, but when he saw the price ($400) for a fairly cheezy tractor seat, he said to have it re-upholstered. So, the shop formen remembers seeing my custom bucket seats and asks me to take a look at this seat.........

We'll I'm always up for a challenge..... ;p Wife is gone this weekend so I'm on my own. Ordered the material and foam this week.....last night I cut new foam for the seats with an electric carving knife and tonight I made patterns from scratch and started sewing. The old fabric was this really cheap stuff that had no seams and just stretched around the foam, probably why it was so tore up for such a new unit.

Few pics of the welting I made and a couple of my covers starting to go on the seats. I probably will need the wife's help tomorrow night, because it's hard to pull and press on that new bead lock on the backside at the same time. But all in all, I thought for a solo free-hand job, not to bad.

I've got $81 in materials, I told my shop formen I probably could do it for around $200, should be worth it I would think?

I have to work today, but thought you guys might enjoy a couple pics of what I did this morning.

26th annual Ski plane fly in up in Warroad, MN on the river that the local Legion hosts every year. Got up pretty early before work and flew over for a free pancake breakfest, P.I.C. eats for free:D

Can't get all the planes in the pic, but pretty nice day and pretty good turn out, about 35 planes on the river when I left.

Anyway, thought you guys might get a kick out of it?

Plane is pretty warm, I've got a pretty good heater. It doesn't get hot, but keeps it comfortable. You also have to dress for the weather ;) Best time to fly up here is in the winter, land anywhere, air is dense so lift is excellent....

I did not have the shop doors open today, it was -5 below this morning....:frown:

I'm going to be down in your neck of the woods next week in Dallas.....looking forward to some of that warm weather :D

I'll be there from March 7th through the 12th. I actually thought about heading down the weekend earlier and helping my brother in law fix his FJ60 and going to that event.

Still will be fixing FJ60's the 7th and 8th ;p

Back to the lv tonight. Spent about 3 hours on the rig tonight.

Spent a good couple hours wet sanding. I had sprayed some ureathane primer last Thursday after wet sanding, there just were a couple areas I wasn't happy with it got another coat. Wet sanded out tonight, everything looked good, let it dry overnight and I should be shooting color tomorrow night.

Came back in and put the rear console heater back together. I had blasted and painted it last week and hadn't got to that yet. Also started looking at the heater hose situation through the firewall. I absolutely could not find 5/8" metal T's, so I took a 5/8" barb to barb fitting I had at work, cut one in half, radius'd the one end, drilled a hole in the long barb and welded them together. After I welded them together I hooked up hoses and a compressor fitting and presure tested to 150 PSI, no leaks so they got paint. Anyway a few pics of the heater hose.

AC lines are going to come through the other 2 holes in the glove box and then the lower 2 in the firewall, should work well.

Also had to drill the holes in the bottom of the tailgate for the license plate light connector. Took a pic of the old piece that I had cut out of there before to use as a template......I figure I better for Cruiserdan so he doesn't think I threw it away :D

Quick question for a FJ62 guru.

Where does this bolt go in the console heater? It came out of there and I can't figure out where it went?

Thanks in advance, Matt
