Hey Matt, did you use the Man-a-fre brake booster spacer or did you make your own??

If you used the Man-a-fre, did the bolts line up? It looks like you used a Toyota booster.

Had to goto Fargo, ND at 4:30 am this morning for work, just walked in the door about an hour ago. My FJ40 blew out a right front brake caliper last Friday and a new one came in today. Had a guy at work pick it up while I was gone today and drop it off at my work place today, so the 40 needed a little luv'n tonight, got that new caliper installed.

Anyway, also stopped at this kinda goofy hardware store in Fargo that carries hardware and a lot of upholstery supplies. I actually stopped there because I was looking for a lightweight rubber edging for metal edges and I stumbled across something else........

I am planning on dying the headliner from SOR because it was grey and I need an off white/white. I bought this PPG vinyl prep and this dye you spray on after you prep it to soften the vinyl. It actually isn't a paint, it's really watery and it actually changes the pigment of the vinyl, so it can't crack or flake off.....I think I've mentioned this a while back.

The point of my story is that I haven't ordered the welting for around the headliner from SOR since it was grey and $52 bucks. I didn't want to dye that stuff and was kinda hoping I didn't have to make it because I didn't know where I was going to get 50 ft of vinyl 2" wide.......??

We'll look what I found today. $24 bucks got me 75 ft, plenty to do maybe 2 lv's and it's already an off white, same color as my dye for the headliner.....;)

Just thought I would share this tidbit of info.

Hi Charles,

I used the one from JT outfitters. Bolts lined up perfect.

Booster is Toyota, from an 84 Toyota forerunner, I wanted it that thin.

Matt, is that designed for the Toyota booster or the GM booster or do they have the same bolt pattern?

I believe it's designed for the Toyota booster. The forerunner booster has the same stud pattern as the FJ40 booster, so either one would have fit. I bought the forefunner booster to bring the MC back closer to the firewall, since the FJ40 booster is so wide.

As far as a GM booster being the same stud pattern as Toyota, I don't know? Sorry.

Got some new headlamp assemblys from Poser (Steve), Thanks man, they looked great, way straighter than what I had

Ran home for lunch, disassembled and blasted. Got them back in the mail and sent them off to AATLAS1X (Shane) in Oregon. He should have them tomorrow for that yellow chromate plating sauce.

Still plan on working tonight a bit, so hopefully a little more work will get done this evening.

Nothing major tonight, about 2.5 hours. Pretty much blocked my bib and center console out with 180. Then seam sealed the lower portion of the bib on the back side, that area that I repaired last year.

Shot 2 coats of DP50LF after all that was done. Hopefully let everything dry over night and start wet sanding out tomorrow.

I want to wet sand out the tail gate and tailgate hatch. I have to work this weekend, but I was hoping to start jamming all these parts into paint sometime this weekend in the evenings.

Another 3 hours tonight on the lv. Seam sealed the tailgate edges, took a bit of time. Brought everthing out in the booth and started wet sanding the bib and center console. Wet sanded the tailgate, but the upper hatch needed another coat of ureathane primer because of some sand scratches. Hopefully block it out tomorrow and shoot a coat of epoxy on top.

That JC whitney weather stripping finally came today after 2 weeks of being back ordered. Figured I better throw that in tonight, only took a few minutes. I got 2 - 25ft rolls. 1 roll does a front and back door opening with about 16" left over, about perfect.

Gives the door opening and body a real finished look I think :)

HAHAHA!!! I was just thinkin that!

Dude, this thing is so friggin badass. Maybe someday my 65 will be 1/8th as clean and I'll be the talk of the town.

What's 1/8th of perfection?

Matt, Was this a two piece or two piece weather strip?

Not sure if I quite understand the question? The weather stripping you see in the pics is 1 piece, the vinyl and rubber are mounted together.

PS, got the care package today, that is some nice stuff!!! I will be posting pics soon!

Thanks, Matt

I have seen many aftermarket door seals and this one look like two put together to make one. There products are very popular in the hot rod and custom scene. Cool to see some one use it in a way that you are.

Matt,
Here is a cool trick I have found. When you install any bolts to the out side. ie door hinge, hood hinge, hood latches and other areas that have bolts exposed when you have fresh paint the paint tends dent or twist. I have found by using these thin nylon washers available in all sizes that you wount get this effect. I use a thin layer of dri gun lube on the washer face and then tighten away. I also use a Snap-On Phillips but in 3/8 drive socket for the rear doors on the 40 and it seats them well and will not damage the bolt.

These washers are so helpful I use all over the place in fact every nut, screw and bolt that touches paint or powder coat has a washer between the paint.
