Trying to work out a good solution for the tail lights as im not happy with how they look now. Stock (no indicators) isnt really an option in australia as it's a bit unsafe. So looking at mounting an indicator directly next to the tail lights similar to what my wife said no FJ mocked up for me on Page 3 of this thread. I dont know. Trying to make a good compromise between stictly stock and practicality.

I think I would look into getting front bib lights to use as rear turn signals. Last time I checked you could still get amber lights pretty cheap. Might want to up the wattage bulb a little but they should work. Finding FJ25 tail light brackets would make mounting them simple. But I doubt you will find any. At least the light would match your tail light only amber. As far as I know the amber lense is the only one still available. Red and clear are gone.Repos can be bought from a few places. Not 100% correct since they used the the later amber lens to make the mold be real close. It's funny the red lenses were used as tail lights from 1958 thru 1963. The clear lenses were used from 1958 until the 68 model came out in 1967 but only the amber lights have been in stock for as long as I can remember. Those were only used in 68 and 69 models here.:confused:

Thanks Great suggestion. Parts are always going to be an issue, Do you have an images of the FJ25 tail light brackets? Maybe I can fabricate something up as a replica?

Does anyone have the OEM part number for the front bib lights? and can this be ordered with Amber lenses instead of the clear?

Posting up a Video on Youtube with a walk around of the car shortly.

Here is a picture of the FJ25 tail light brackets. They mounted to the bottom of the tub instead of the rear crossmember. These (if you could find some) could mount to the bottom of the crossmember and use the amber bib lights for turn signals. Don't have a part number if you ask your local Toyota dealer if they can get the bib lights for a 3/69 FJ40. If you reread my other post you see the amber lights had the shortest life on the FJ40 but were the only ones available for year after the other two (clear & red) were discontinued. If Toyota doesn't have most other places have them available after market. You can get the clear and red lenses are available also but cost more than the amber.

For what it's worth, I prefer a version of my first idea, by just adding a smaller yellow light next to the tail light (first picture), but if that is not enough, you can always get the round reflector off a later model, remove the actual reflector part, and add an amber light in the place of the reflector as in the second picture...just an idea...and would still sort of look stock, and not really stick out much. The third picture is the actual reflector itself...would probably be the easiest way to add an amber light...and please no comment about my lack of photochop abilities :lol:

There is not really enough room inside the tail lights without removing the bumperettes drilling closer to the center. Starting in 68 the reflectors were added to both sides and the bumperettes were closer. Not sure if this was done so there would be a reflector on each side or because adding the reverse light on the back of the tub caused the reflector to be relocated.

I think installing turn signals in the corner reflectors would probably look the cleanest. Anything that is mounted below the frame seems to get damage if the vehicle see any off road use.

Here is a picture of showing the lack of room for a reflector plus the correct trailer socket for the earlier Land Cruisers

Looking at the short posts behind your door, and the lack of heater air intake on your driver's side, I would have said it was a '64.

I have a 64 with the long b-pillars. It must be a very early one.

Edit: I just learned about the first number of the early VIN's indicating the actual build year. Mine's a "2" I guess I have a 1962. Everything makes much mores sense to me now!

LOL...happens to me to :lol::lol::lol:

You should note that it probably sat on a lot somewhere until it was sold and title/register in '64...which is why you probably have '64 on your paper work :cheers:
