So I am COMPLETELY new to the FJ40 scene.
I live n Mexico City and found an old 1963 FJ40 in Guadalajara, it had been sitting for 20+ years (photos as found here FJ40 1965).

The good news: It started up!

The bad news: I have no idea what I'm doing but do know I want to keep it as stock as possible.

I intend to use it for weekend drives with the kids, maybe a short fishing trip or two. I understand I am driving a super old vehicle and don't intend to push it too much as I usually like to get back home from wherever I am.

I have a few questions:

15" vs 16" split. What are your recommendations and what wheel and tire size do you recommend and why?

Shocks: This FJ is stock height but needs new shocks. Anyone have any insight? (make, specs, etc...)

I see many parts are available for the 1965, would these fit my 1965?

What other recommendations do you have?

Keep up the good work!

First thing you might do is verify what year that is. I am thinking it is a 1965.

What is the vehicle identification number?

Thanks for the reply!
The frame is IFj40-33926 and engine is F207594, the invoice was issued in 1963 and states it's a 1963 model.

March 1965

Yup

Land Cruiser Frame Numbers

‘65’s are great (I’m biased). Have fun, and welcome to Mudville.

Opinion: 15” steelies with 7-15s.

Just partial to original look is all. The wheels are still available new from Toyota. You probably still have drum brakes so you can even use the older riveted wheels or the new(er) welded wheels. If you’re thinking of a lift than someone else can help with wheels/tires for that. Nice rig, lots to work with there.

I actually bought them from Cruiser Corps when they had the free shipping promotion. I'm looking for the tires now, just don't know what size would be best in the 15" rim. I later found out that they were sold in 16" split rims outside the U.S., hence my question and wondering if it might be a good idea to go for those before I get the tires.

Anyway, seriously thanks for taking your time for this!
