Their is no way I would buy that thing unless their is absolutely zero rust. The funky mods would send me running to the hills. It takes a lot of time figuring out how ppl hacked stuff up and then you have to figure out how to make it right again. And that takes a ton of time and money. I would look for a 2f with a 4spd and disc brakes. Much better starting point even if you have to pay 2 or 3 grand more.

If, for conversations sake, the price is $5000, I would be looking elsewhere. (IMHO  ) Like White Stripe said - to many "funky mods".

I have contact info if anyone is interested. He's moving in 2 weeks and I offered to help him sell it to someone interested on mud.

Good call on the rear quarters.
They appear to be 2 different heights with respect to the rear sill.
That would seriously call into question the "rust free" claim... or perhaps that just means you get the rust at no additional charge.

What was he thinking to get for it?

I see two parts that, together, are worth a grand.

I know your counting the stamped bezel as one. Which is the other one? I can think of a possible few but not placing them that high a value. Also thought the price on stamped bezel was down with the repos out there. Years ago I remember one selling for $600 on eBay. Then the repos starting showing up.

What was there, was pretty solid and rust free. There were some pin holes and some weld repairs. If he gives me the opportunity to list it I'll photograph it very well for any interested people.

Maybe not that high of value. I paid $425 (as I recall) for my tail gate, but it came with the hardware.

Looking again this one may be a set of welded barn doors. (?)

If it had a OEM tailgate and hardware I could see that but this one is pieced together barn door and non stock hardware. When value a vehicle in this shape parted out it be worth bring close to the asking price in parts. I don't see anywhere near $5K in parts here.

Yep, the value's just not there. And certainly not as a collectable '61 FJ40.
:deadhorse:

no windshield bumpers on the hood

That would be standard on a hard top model until the mid sixties. Neither of my 61 hard tops have the latches or bumpers for the windshield. Same with the non removable top SWB pickups and FJ45LVs didn't have them either but at least they didn't have windshield that folded down.:meh:

Well... Really wish I saw this before I bought this thing haha. Just got it home yesterday. The rear hatch opening is too small for the bi-fold door that came with it. I have no idea how the alignment of the front end is so jacked up, maybe the frame is bent? Other than those two major issues and it being some stupid combination of random year models...It's pretty solid. Definitely paid too much. Maybe I'll start a separate thread to try and get some advice on how to fix some of this junk.
