1959 FJ25 Value Opinions: Full Restoration

Hello,

We have a client wanting us to possibly bring his FJ25 to market this week and wanted some valuation opinions. It went under a full ground up restoration 2 years ago and comes with many other parts as well. We know its a rare Land Cruiser but we have better experience with 40 series.

Please give us an idea and possibly one of you guys will be interested in the purchase yourself. Please ask any questions and educate me a little on these. I have seen some go for over 75K.

My opinion is 75K +. Others have sold for that and depending on how and where it is marketed, it will bring big money.
 
I think that valuation is a bit high to somebody that knows what they’re looking at. 1959 hardtop trucks are hard to find (there’s only a couple known to exist), but this one is missing a lot of FJ25 specific parts and some artistic liberties have been taken.

Does it have the original drivetrain (it does appear to be the correct vintage f120)?

Can you post some pics of the wiper motors and wiring along the windshield frame?

Great looking truck, but I think it’s closer to $50k.

Yes, that is the original drivetrain

Wow. I have no expertise on valuation but that sure looks like it ought to be in the range your thinking. Looks like period correct drive train if not original to vehicle. Love the pre-build pics too. Do you have any front seat build pics (what’s under the covers) that you are willing to share?
 
What we know is the land cruiser was all there before the restoration process. Of course i am no expert when it comes to what is missing. We have the original starter but needs new brushes so other than the starter on it now it appears period correct.

I can see if I can seat build pics. Maybe Splangy can chime in on what he see is missing??

Missing correct fuel pump, generator, voltage regulator, master slave cylinder, front bumper (looks like it should with it), rear tail light brackets, rear license plate bracket turn signal switch and possible 25 steering wheel. That is just a quick look. Did see a clear picture of the gas cap locking style? It is the correct large one?

Finding these parts is hard anywhere. I ended up buying multiple 25s to collect parts. The front bumper and gas cap were used on the FJ25 and 61 FJ40. The rest were FJ25 only. Would have to see clear picture of the dash and wipers to tell what's original and what's not. US mainland got vacuum wipers but some got electric. Those were not the normal TNK used on the early 40 series. Looks like you have the tire plaque on dash and missing the plaque for the transmission/transfer case?

Yes, undertood just gathering information and this was a cool picture I thought I would share. I’m very familiar with 40 series not the F25 so this is a learning experience for myself as well. This is the first one we had the pleasure of selling.

From the owner. He will be giving us more requested info as well to parts, photos and any other questions.

“This vehicle was found in a garage of a farm in the area of Cachí de Paraíso, Cartago, Costa Rica. The engine still worked but it was already abandoned although it still had its original parts.

Once we know its history and the technological evolution of the manufacturer, we took on the task of restoring it as professionally and ethically as possible.

The administrative director of the restoration was a young doctor fond of cars that today are considered exotic, for their performance, design and the limited existence of them.

Although it is a vehicle worthy of any museum of high qualification, it works with all its original properties and is still legally authorized to cirhculate on the roads of Costa Rica. It was the subject of a publication on the front page of a Costa Rican newspaper and it was the oldest vehicle that participated in the guiness record prize awarded to the Toyota distribution company in Costa Rica.

It is sold with the hope that it will be conserved and adequately exhibited by those connoisseurs who want to move exclusively in any part of the world.”
 
What ever happened to the other FJ25 in Costa Rica? Remember all the hype on TLC Trails over a number of issues on guessing the story and claims that weren't true. Believe the same dealer who had that one also bought a 61 FJ40 FST from here in AZ to restore. Thought about buying a few years earlier but already had too many. It was originally from south of the border as the VIN plaque was in Spanish. Not all the parts made it with the cruiser to Costa Rica and offered for sale later on Craigslist. I ended up buying some of those.:)

That reeks of cheesy sales pitch. It’s a good looking, solid, mostly original FJ25. You don’t need to throw all the bad sales pitch garbage in.

Sorry its not to your taste or liking but i do my best to translate from Spanish to English...this is from the owner in his own words. But appreciate your opinion nonetheless.
