I was looking at some Toyota 17 x 7.5 FJC wheels, and my Toyo tire guy thought the Toyo MT 37 x 13.5 would be crowned and cause bad road handling.

The Cooper tire guy would not mount the 37 x 12.5 STT on that narrow of a wheel. He said the wheel could blow apart with to much pressure. :bang:

What wheel, tire, backspace combo do you guys with 37's think are optimal, search is inconclusive.

I kinda of want to stay with an alloy wheel, just for weight. Steel wheels would work as well if I can find the right size.

Thanks for any advice.

I'm running 17x9 with 325's. Fits it perfectly.

well i better go take mine off :D

have had the cooper stt 37 x 12.5 r17 on the tundra/sequoia wheels that have same dimension.
Tools r Us has wheeled this same combo for years as well with no issues.
there is some concern over the FJC steel wheels holding a bead and ive seen several blow beads
but the alloys I have not heard any concerns over. Time for a new tire guy maybe.

Discount tire mounted my 37x13.5 iroks on the same style rim too. At the right pressure they wore well but 13.5 on a 7.5'' rim is pushing it. General rule is 3/4 of the tread width for the wheel width.

jcardonna has some great looking wheels I think are 17x9 level 7 i think?
available at big box wheel stores for not too much ~170ea

i dont think search is so much inconclusive as falling victim to opinion based part of ?
Tools has some good posts about the topic. 4'' seems to be the magic backspacing. Some go 3.75 but all this will be affected by width of wheel you choose and the particulars of you lift. all spring? spring and spacer? any body lift?

if youve just got the 4'' in you sig and its not old and worn then id say those wheels will work fine, you will probably want to add a spacer to get closer to 4'' bs. IF you still have flairs look at the pie wedge trim job tools shows. tires? that all depends on terrain and use and of course your opinion. Ive tried iroks, trxxus, terra grapplers, BFG at, and KM2s so far. KM2's win hands down here in the SE in good mix of rocks and mud.

Yes, I am also running the same identical wheels. They are called Level 8, Strike 6 wheels. They come 17x9 with -12 or 0 offset in back or silver machine. I actually retail them for $550 set.

FUD, not going to happen. Have run that setup for a longtime, works well.

Most tire chain stores are very risk averse, will only mount tires to the recommended rim size and are quick to spread fearful stories, bus load of dead nuns. Around here, Discount, Costco, etc, will not touch my tires, because of the rim size and spacers, Sears, a couple of smaller shops have no problem working on them. Finding a shop that understands wheeling rigs is key.

How long is a piece of string? A wider rim will work slightly better in the soft stuff. For most wheeling, a narrow rim works better. It sucks the sidewalls in, making them and the rim more protected from rock, etc, damage, they stay on the rim better when aired down, etc.

Yup! I think the Strike 6 are a great looking wheel. Mine were black, but decided to change the color to silver. Discount Tire sells them directly on eBay for $129/wheel. Not bad at all.

I got the -12mm offset version.

Several locals run the same setup with good success, AzTony on Coopers w/ FJC rims, clarkrw3 with Nitto Trail Grapplers on Tundra rims.

Yep, got the Slee 4" on last year, so no sag for sure.

It seems most aftermarket wheels are 9" wide, I have seen a few threads that show this causing some rubbing issues, so I was thinking the 7.5" Toyota wheel would be pretty good on the STT.

I will try to find a set of wheel this summer and go from there I suppose. Like I said the Les Schwab guy thought the tire might crown and give a little handling issue. Sound like your 13.5" Irok setup wore well, so no squirrely handling problems I take it?

I believe they are 17 x 7.5 with 4.75" Backspacing

That sounds about right, I also run a 1.25" spacer with them. The newer style (circular holes) started in 2011. They also come on some 4runners. Both styles have the same dimensions all the way around.

I am running a set of MB Razors from Discount. I got them from a guy that had them on his FJC. They are 17 x 8.5 and I think they are 4.75 BS. I mounted 37" Nitto Trail Grapplers on them. Work great, look nice. Had to take off the 1" spacers that I used to run so they stuff pretty nice with just a wee bit of flair trimming. John

I am looking to run 37x12.5 tire with no spacers.. I was about to buy FJC steelies but someone told me because of the offset and not backspacing of those rims, I would have to run spacers.. Anyone happen to know if any 17 inch wheel as long as it has same offset as oem rims which I think is at 0mm would allow me to run without spacers...Any advice would help... I am running slee 4 inch springs and I am flarless..... Any links of rims would be helpful too please....I searched but I just see a bunch of peeps running spacers which I am trying to avoid..
