Who is planning on going this year? Enough interest to try signing up for one run to make "100 Run".

I would say I'm interested, but I'm not sure I want to pay $175 for a sticker, t-shirt and one (1) dinner. If that price included all the park, permit and BLM fees it might make more sense, but it doesn't. The guides are volunteers. Am I missing something?

Art, there is a lot more involved with getting the event up that what most people think. The costs add up. There are permit fees, tent rental for the dinner and raffle, porta potties, sat phones for trail leaders, insurance and a whole bunch of other items. I know from the outside it appears that it should not cost that much, but I can assure you having served on the committee and working the event, that is not a simple undertaking. Most people would be surprised at the budget it takes to do run that event.

The second part to that is that Cruise Moab generates a lot of money from raffle sales that go directly to organizations that either directly support us and that help keep trails open.

FWIW, we have are doing Hells Revenge on Thursday. Will probably have a 100 series there for the event. It is a new 'Shop Sponsored Run" deal that the committee is trying. Not exactly sure what shop sponsored mean, but we will get to that.

100's are welcome to join one of my runs if you want, I'll be running a 100 series as well but wouldn't call either an official "100 run," necessarily. I'm leading an Arches run on Thursday (in via Tower Arch trail), and WipeOut hill on Friday- the Friday one will be my "sponsored run," as Christo eluded to. Which means I'll likely be providing lunch, probably have some freebies as well.

If you like dinosaur tracks, high speed sand, a short hike to an arch, followed by a little slider testing, you should consider the Arches deal.. it's a great time particularly if you've got a family with you.

Are you guys talking this week? I am here now with my 100 if I can get away from work you can definitely count me in! Ill be here for another few weeks most likely. Anything going on in the evenings? I would love to meet some of you guys but it is hard to get away from work until after 6pm sometimes.

yeah that's my bad. I looked it up a bit ago. I will most likely be back in Moab around that time!

I am leading Fins and Things on Saturday and gunning on Posion Spyder Friday.

Most of us get there early and do runs before the evnt starts even on Wednesday afternoon. I havent done Steel bender in a while and its not on the list as a trail run this year

Just to clarify, Cruise Moab site has Slee sponsoring Hell's on Thurs, which is the more current information?

Sounds like a great idea.

Who has a 100 that isn't going, I can drop it back after the event on the way back through maybe ?

Looking forward to 2014! Book Cliff Cruisers will once again be sponsoring the Kokopelli Overnight and I'll be leading that trip (100 Series). Wasatch Cruisers will once again be sponsoring the Swell and Kurt will be leading (100 Series (unless he brings out a classic)) and as you saw, 2-3 other trail leaders will be driving the Series 100. It's clear that the 100 is here to stay and will be making a bigger and bigger appearance each year at events.

As far as the cost goes, people will always have concerns about the value to cost ratio of events. CM's cost is consistent with others. Christo outlined a lot of the fees involved and he's absolutely right. A mid sized event can cost $30-$50k to put on. If the meal, shirts, swag or ability to be able to run trails with the organized groups are not something you are interested in, there is no one making you pay the registrations. Trails are open to everyone, and anyone is welcome to venture out on their own.

Cruise Moab is all about running trails with other registered members. You cannot believe how much work is involved when putting on an event of this size. The planning literally starts the week after we return every year. It takes that long to put all the logistics together. This is not a money making event, every penny goes back into Land Use, donations, logistics, TLCA insurance, permits and so on. Your Trail Leaders do not get paid, the Cruise Moab Committee does not get paid, the guys/gals sitting in base camp on the HAM waiting to send someone out to rescue a 100 with a blown front end do not get paid, and all the folks you see running back and forth while everyone else is drinking beer and talking trails at night do not get paid.

Moab doesn't close, it's open 365 days a year. However, Cruise Moab is a chance to wheel your vehicle in the company of some very experienced enthusiasts. All while knowing that if something goes wrong, you will not be stuck, stranded or left behind. Worth every penny.

FWIW, Easter Jeep Safari is $450 if you stay all week. Overland Expo is $485 for 1 vehicle, 2 people. At $175, we are in line with what it should cost to attend this type of event.

I think its such a great event, and cheaper than any here, and better run, I have been twice now, and planning on this year and next as well!

The fee is the cheap bit,We drink more than that in $ terms on the 20 hours of flight to get there!

 for the organisers.

Going to try to make it this year - just have to get a little armor.

When I have done events like this I feel that the money spent gets you all of the above, and four wheeling with a group of like minded individuals. Another added benefit is if something on your cruiser goes south you will most likely have several experts to assist you through the problem. To me, that always justifies the money spent for entry fees. Especially since I am no mechanical genius.

I have been to a couple of events run by some local yokels done on the cheap, there is a world of difference in quality between events like Cruise Moab, Jeep Jamboree, and events run by people that really don't know what they are doing. I don't participate in events run by local yokels anymore.

The cost for entry into Cruise Moab is very reasonable when you take into account all of the benefits that come with a well run event like this.

Your Trail Leaders do not get paid

Full disclosure from a serial trail leader: In some years trail leaders get a modest $5-$20 registration rebate at the event (we all have to register and pay the same fees), in our packets. We never know what it is going to be or not, and it is sure not a reason anyone leads or guns. We also have gotten that cool trail leader shirt on occasion.

Leading is a blast and I recommend it to everyone. Pay it forward.
