Discount Tire lists the rim width range as 7.5” to 11” for 315/75/16 BFG ATs.

Looks like they are adding an inch variance to the range that I got from the tire and rim association book. Of course mine is outdated by a couple of years so who knows....
 
Either way, we’re confident 6” is way too narrow for a 315/75/16.

Yeah for sure but I see people doing crazy rim/tire combos. Doesn't make it ok. Just like some people like the skinny jean look that shouldn't be wearing them.

I have not, but generally speaking, a Japanese wheel from Toyota is going to be of higher quality than anything you have listed.

I agree and the OEM steel ones you asked about earlier in this thread are some of the best 70 series wheels. If I didn't have flares, I would be running them still......

Maybe unless we're talking about the Jaos Victron Tribes... Which are unfortunately 5-lug.

I agree, but I don't know any OEM alloys for the J70 and the steel wheels are a lot heavier, about 30 lbs vs 19 lbs. I don't plan doing much off-roading, I'll use a Hilux for that, so I am searching only for alloys for my RJ73
 
Yeah, those custom wheels are too expensive for me right now.

I've got the slightly larger 4runner brake calipers on my BJ74. I think I should stay with 16" wheels.

Sooooo I guess I will choose from either the Toyota rims Onur posted (42601-60262-03 ) or the cheap steel Soft 8's that all seem to be made in one giant factory overseas.
Can not vouch for the cheap steelies on a cruiser but have used them on several jeeps without any issues. Also the balance weight is clipped on the rim edge instead of the tape style weight used on alloy wheels. My current build will get cheap steel wheels.
 
Some Toyota OEM alloy have flange clip on weights but not all.
 
Japanese Prados had OEM 16x 6 alloys. Zero offset. Direct fit on a 6-lug 70 series.

JDM HZJ77's came with those same alloy wheels, as did the very early HDJ81 from Japan if I remember right.

The 15x7" alloys came on both JDM light duty and heavy duty cruisers too a couple years later.

Way ugly, too narrow and too small in diameter. Otherwise perfect. :moon:

I thought USDM 15” x 7” alloys that came on USDM 91/92 FJ80s, 4Runners, and early Pickups were all 4.5” backspacing.

To be honest there are lots of different sizes when you look at all these in the Toyota epc across all the different models. My point was just that there are a lot of factory alloys that came on early 90s landcruisers and at least the 70 series ones are a fine fit for light and heavy duty 70 models.
 
While cosmetically similar, the JDM Prado wheels and the US 80 wheels are not the same.

The 70-series (Prado) alloy wheels I referenced above are a 16 x 6" wheel with zero offset, thus 3.5" backspacing. Direct fit on a 6-lug 70-series, no spacer required. Work great with 235/85-16 tires, but can also work with 255/85-16 if you want to run 33". Nowhere near wide enough for a 315.

The early US market 80-series alloy wheels are a 15 x 7" wheel with 8mm positive offset, thus (about) 4 5/16" backspacing. You'd probably need spacers to run them on a 70-series, and you'd be limited to 15" tire sizes.

I'd assume the 4-Runner alloys of the same period are the same as the US 80-series wheels, but I've never had any so can't say for sure.

I don't think 70 series Prado offset is -20 but is 15, then of course it is 16X6 which gets you closer to 4" BS. Too many variants of that wheel design out there to be sure!!

I actually have a factory 1990 lj78 16x6 set and can confirm they're 0mm offset.
