Take a chill will ya. People are dying from this, lots of people. Are you and those close to you invisible? Nobody likes what is going on, but it is rather clear that the only way to end all this is to stop the spread. That is what shelter in place is proposed to do.

None of us have the answer, it is all speculation. But logic tells us that going on in life like nothing is happening will get us results like Italy. I'd personally just as soon pass on that particular scenario. Ask those in Italy about their current way of life, ask those close to the nearly 7K in this country already dead about their current way of life.

Asheville traffic has slowed, but locals are still going out constantly. I am part of the essential workforce so I have to go out. My wife and daughters have been home for 3 weeks. My wife has only gone out in public twice. My daughters have not been in public at all. I don’t think people are taking it as seriously as they should around here. Some people still don’t get it.

Hoping everyone stays safe and healthy.

Pretty interesting how location data is being used to show how well people are following social distancing guidelines.

Remember those privacy concerns I brought up in a prior post? Yeah. Cool data, but scary at the same time.

Yeah... Andrea still goes to work.

I go out twice a week for food, and in the same time go visit my mom through a window or if the weather is nice from opposite ends of the porch since she is all alone and needs some kind of company.

This is nuts to watch for me. The Seattle metro area has a living population of around 3.5 million. Daily that number increases about 66% with people commuting in for work.

Seeing the streets in front of my old apartment and office bare like this and an empty pikes place market is crazy. But its working in our region.

“anonymous cellphone data”. Uh huh.

I think the real flaw in that is the “2 mile” thing. Lots of people in that red area likely have to drive more than 2 miles for essentials.

The crazy thing, my wife's family is all in Northern Italy, we FaceTimed with her cousins yesterday and the restrictions they have in place are much more than ours. Italy's death toll is likely higher than ours due to their aging population, but at this point with numbers in the US still trending upward, I personally don't think we are doing enough to combat the spread.

I agree. I believe that if we keep with the State by State road we are on it will only prolong the process. Some states have been locked down two weeks now, here in SC, where we are one of only a hand full of states not locked down, people are still acting like there is nothing going on and they don't have to do anything. Once we do lock down, we will be way behind the curve.

Agree'd it needs to be federally mandated. While i'm not a socialist kind of guy, things like this is why we do need some social safety nets in place. Europe is in a much better place to deal with this because of their social nets. Hell all my relatives in the UK are getting free health care, 80% of their salary (if they can't work) and 3 month mortgage holiday (rent holiday also). Its just things that need to happen in a times like this. The only other option is business as normal... most of the world catches it and we get a few hundred million dead.

I know which way I vote for.

Update on my aunt and uncle... they have been self isolating at their home in the Welsh country side for about 8? days now. She is a head doctor at the biggest hospital in the UK outside of London so she is taking care of them herself. He biggest regret is the fact that it has taken another health care worker out of the line of duty currently.

My uncle is just enjoying the time off hey said he may just straight retire for the most part if they pull through. He is a partner at a maritime law firm that does most of their work in middle east disputes so he hasn't been able to do much about that for a while now.

They didn't sound the greatest when I talked to them but we all think they will pull through. they are in their mid 60's but both are marathon runners so they are pretty healthy.

Because of the staggered starts of state mandated isolation I can only guess that the best bet will be a federally mandated time to lift it all at once, otherwise we get the same thing on the out as we did on the in.
