I guess it is time to finally start a build thread on "Bad Mojo." This project is not going to be fast by any means. Lets just say it will take a couple years to have Bad Mojo to where I want it.

Background: Bad Mojo is a 1977 FJ40, and it came home in March 2009 which is also the same month it was built. The idea with Bad Mojo was to restore a 40 series with my dad, and for me to learn how to work on a car and how to learn stick. The name comes from a jug in the garage that has "Bad Mojo" written on it. No one in the family really knows what is in the jug, but the name stuck to the cruiser.

Plan: The plan for the cruiser is to have a fully restored FJ40 by the time I graduate from college in 2013. I hope I can really have it done by 2011. I don't plan wheeling this vehicle to hard and it will take a while for me to every consider a locker or more than a 2.5" lift, but who knows. Right now my vehicle runs just fine; I spent a day with my mechanic going through and tuning it up, so I don't plan on swapping in an engine any time soon, but I am considering a diesel swap and a five speed transmission at some point. For this summer the goal is to make the vehicle safe, mechanically sound, and secured. Making it pretty happens later. So new seat belts are going in, tires, locking hood, 2.5" OME lift, and FJ60 PS are going in.

What it will look like in a couple years, but with painted FJ60 Rims.

What Are These Bits?

I am lost on what these pieces are. The wire piece fell off today when I was cleaning the undercarriage and knuckles with a pressure washer in preparation of rebuilding axles, suspension, and PS. At some point it looked like there should of been two wires. The odd looking metal piece I found a while ago in my glove compartment or pocket as some would say. I found it after having the windshield folded down.

Source3 your right those are old my old points. I had forgotten I had put them in my glovebox. I stopped my Cdan and the red wire thing is for my brake master cyclinder. Which makes since seeing that my brake light doesn't come on. So I have some rewiring to do tonight.

The wire goes on the brake m/c for the idiot light--a post under each reservoir.

IMO I wouldn't spend the $$ on OME for a 40, I'd buy Skyjacker. I've ridden in both and I don't think the OME is that much better.

OME is going for now because it is currently sitting in the garage. For the wire does anyone have the tool or special technique to get the wire free from the clip so I can rewire the clips and have my idiot light work for the first time sense I have owned the vehicle.

You should be able to slip a really skinny, small, flat blade screw driver between the outside of the metal terminal and inside the plastic housing to release the terminal from the housing. Look real close to see if you can find where there would be a slight protrusion from the terminal engaging a boss or rib on the plastic housing. Insert the screwdriver from the end opposite where the wire is coming out. The next challenge is being able to pry open the tabs that hold the wire to the terminal such that you can reuse it to secure new wires to and then insert it back into the terminal housing.

What Marc said for getting it out. I might have terminals you can crimp on new wire. After you get the old one out post up and I'll let you know.

Rims

I am going to paint my FJ60 rims. So here is a sample of what they will look like. Here is what it will look like once the project is done and what it will look like right away.

2.5" OME Lift

I had some of the guys come over from the club today who helped put my lift. Putting my lift went really well. You just have to figure out which way everything goes. I picked up at least three inches of lift, compared to my old suspension. Here is a before and after pictures. Compare the fenders and you will see the differents. For one I actually have to use running boards to get into a vehicle. :) I just finished taking the 40 for a drive and it actually makes it over speed bumps and dips without the tires catching the tub. So far one of the best purchases so far.

Paint - some rubbing compound and elbow grease is what the doctor ordered!

Winch - Warn 8000lb Winch This winch is a little older 8274 but maybe a newer version will look good on the bumper.

Oh yeah.....

I think your right about the rubbing compound. I have to the best looking 40 for all the girls at college. ;)

I checked out that winch link. I think a newer one would look better, but a winch is not going to happen any time soon. :frown:

Best looking? How about ONLY FJ40 on campus.

I sent pictures of Da'40 to my sister. She thinks it will be a "chick magnet." :meh: I think you will have better luck.

I also looked at that winch. Nice old school winch on an old FJ40. :hhmm:

Very true I think I will be the only person with a 40 on campus, and because of that I am already sitting way above all the other guys on campus. :D

Nice looking old school winch for a nice looking old school 40. They are meant to be together. Go for it.

Truth!

It is indeed. We've got an 8074 for Dad's 40, but if you guys don't pick this up, I just might--if for no other reason than to flip it or something (yep, I might just have to become a flipper :grinpimp:).

ESPECIALLY since it's got the complete cable controls.... wicked cool.

.. if you guys don't pick this up, I just might

That Bellview appears to be in excellent condition and could be restored to new. There is a "how-to" thread in the recovery section of the main 'Mud forum.

Jon, do you have a winch for da'40?

That old fashioned winch may do the trick on a non injected 40. Do I get a finders fee? :D

FJ60 Power Steering Unit

I got my FJ60 back from West Texas Off Road. Thanks Onur for the suggestion. They had a pretty quick turn around, and a friendly staff that seemed to to know what is up. I haven't set up the unit yet, but from the looks of it will last a pretty long time. Also the company shipped the unit back in a form fitted box. In my book that is quality work, and years of rebuilding power steering units. I can't wait to get my unit set up.

I also finished my last color coat on my rims. So I'm letting them dry for a solid 24 hours and then they are off to the tire shop for some 33" skinnes. So I will have pictures up by Thursday hopefully. (Yes, I know it is the teenage boy thing to redo my rims, but at least they are going back Land Cruiser rims.)

Tires And Rims

Today I got my 33" skinnes on my FJ60 rims. I really like how they turned out. It barely clears my garage door in its normal up position. Skinnes offer so much less resistance than 10.5" when I drove it for the first time I'm thinking power steering isn't a must have, but I'm still going to do it because it makes sense to do.

Also I went to the boneyards with Dan and found some really cool parts. I ended up picking up a cable hood latch, so I am going to play with that and see if I can get that to work. By having that it just offers one more level of security in my car as long as my hardtop is on.

Of course I took a picture of how it looks in the exact same spot I do. :D
