Bit the bullet and ordered a new front bumper and rear bumperette’s from the local Toyota dealer, next day delivery! Installed them today.
Also rechecked all the valve clearances and retarded the timing slightly. Think it’s dialed in now after a...
Joined some time ago and can’t remember if I introduced myself! My name is Garland andcI am in the process of getting a 78 fj back onthe road and trails. I bought aftermarket turn/ signal lights and they came with 3 wires instead of 2, two...

If your changing going LS, 350/383 or something else your tranny/tcsse options open up. I'd lose the 1 piece tcase, and run something stronger with more low rsnge gearing options
I agree, if you are doing that work get an ls in there or a Toyota motor of choice. You might be able to find a complete set up with 4 speed or better and get a splitcase too which would save alot of work.
I sealed the back third of the frame, springs, and axle with Corroseal. There are many different rust converters on the market and a variety of opinions about them, but I have been very pleased with Corroseal. I used it on my FJ55’s frame and...
Engine will likely need to be moved if it’s not far enough from the firewall. Drive shafts will need to be lengthened and shortened.
As stated, custom bel housing, clutch, fork, 2F throw out bearing, etc.
I’d sell it as is unless you are...
Maybe you will need new engine mounts if the conversion was done with the old Downey cradle mount or if the location of the engine is not as it should be
I don't have any pics for this little update, but last night I decided to double-check the clutch adjustment, etc., as shifting is not always the smoothest on this truck. I also remembered that I'd never properly bled the clutch line, so I...
I had to drive to the small town about 5 miles from home. It was getting late. I decided the take the backroad home. Around 8pm, I started getting to a common spot where the deer like to hang out, there were about 20 deer in the field on my...
@Chungas Revenge - I didn't need power steering way back in the mid 80's. Just needed to learn to let these small ones pass and apparently how to flip a bezel.
I think you'll need either a Downey or AA bellhousing. 4 speed fork and bearing hub/retainer. Sbc flywheel, disc, and low profile pp and Toyota throw out bearing. It's been a long time since I ran a stk 40 4 speed, so I could be off.
My front harness is 95% original, unmolested condition. So that's cool. Some of the plastic connectors are pretty roached and brittle and some of the bullet connectors are missing or cut off. I ordered a box of goodies from @Coolerman to fix it...
Gary, 1&6 are the two valves that are actually adjusted to true TDC, and they are the two that you’re noticing a difference with. That makes me wonder if the other valves are actually adjusted properly?
When I adjust valves, I bring each...
Good morning, folks. I appreciate all the input and comments. I’m aware that the truck has a pre 76 tub. It has a 4spd tranny and front bench seats. My 40 came from Costa Rica and it was picked up from the port of houston 5 years ago.
The Rack...
Up to Argentine pass in CO. Highest the cruiser has been under my ownership (13,200'), handled it well! At the top took a short hike up to the top of the ridge with my son, he had a blast!
It appears to be a later frame 74+, looking at the silhouette of the rear tail lights thru the rear pass fenderwell. It looks like the 2 windshield hinges are different, one early model on the drivers side and 1 later model on the pass side...
