Finished my first ever Timing belt/WP service, replaced every tensioner, pully, fan bracket, radiator and most of the water hose.

A BIG thank you to all you mudders who have detailed the process so well that even I got the courage to do it.

I miss working on the cruiser. I am putting new timing chains in my pathfinder. 14 hours in and finally going back together.

I finally got my winch wired up and the synthetic rope wound. I did a tape measure alignment late last weekend and it feels pretty dang good, except that the steering wheel is still about 60 deg left of center. I'll probably get that adjusted at the upper steering shaft joint, but holding off on doing the full proper alignment until I get the UCA's and AHC lift installed. With the winch, coastal off-road bumpers, and rooftop tent I'm pretty sure I'm getting close to the point where I will need to go to stiffer torsion bars. Guess it's time to fire techstream back up.

Feels like one step forward, two steps back.
I do all my own work except tire changes and alignments. Firestone lifetime alignments are like $200. Pay for themselves after two alignments and then it’s free alignments for the rest of your ownership. I’m about to take our 04 in for its fifth or sixth…..

Agreed! Unfortunately all their shops around here shut down a few years after I purchased it and used it a few times.

Last few weeks:
04 Cruiser:
—oil change (wasn’t paying attention and put 12k miles on this oil—Blackstone said, “looks good; maybe try 14 next time”!)
—Swapped downstream 02 sensors to see if my P0430 would turn into a P0420 and it did!! New sensor ordered.

00 JDM cruiser:
—new clamp on CV boot that was slinging grease everywhere.
—aftermarket backup camera added
—attempted to add GROM BT3; turns out that even though the nav units for the US and JDM models look really similar, they have VERY different connectors….
—added a replica Japanese tag to the front along with one of the license plate holders that were in it when I bought it, and which I assume the previous owners used in Japan.

This is one of those while you are in there deals, holy 5hit!
Never again. Probably 2-3hrs on the tear down and about the same going back in.

Wasn’t too bad once you get your head around where everything goes back in. Only left with 2 screws after reassembly which was surprising 🤣

SHE IS HOME

After getting a huge overhaul (as I've mentioned many times in this thread), she's finally home!

I took the 2.5 hour journey down to my guy to pick her up, and what a journey it was home :) She ran beautifully, and I'm now gearing up for a turbo replacement and injector replacement to keep her on the right track (both are tired).

Even though they are inherently boaty, it drove so tight after the new OEM rack and everything else, plus the alignment, so it really is a pleasure to drive.

2004, 239K on the clock, nothing for these 4.2TD 1HD-FTE engines.

Big shout out to Partsouq.com who consistently didn't include parts which their pictures and parts diagrams said were included - missing parts must have cost me 2-3 weeks on the timeline for this. If in doubt, Dave Stedman (Japan4x4) is your man for a great service, and solid pricing on OEM parts!

Got the steering shaft adjusted at the splined joint on the rack yesterday... It was so much easier to work on a joint that wasn't frozen with 24 years of rust and road gunk. Didn't even have to unbolt or remove any of the surrounding components to do it.

Yeah, that's just extra time out of my month to get it redone repeatedly. I've already got the AHC shock lift kit, diff drop, and UCA's ready to go in, just need to find time to do it. The only time-sensitive component to this for me is that my inspection/registration was due last month and I needed to be able to drive it enough to get my readiness monitors reset so I can get the paperwork back up to date. Got everything "ready" now, and should have the inspection done this afternoon, so hopefully soon I'll be tearing back into it to get the lift done. Once that's all set we'll see on the torsion bars. Already shopping air spring helpers for the back, I think I have way too much variation in loading to find a "sufficient" spring (unloaded) that will be optimal through my entire expected operating weight range, especially when considering the likelyhood of towing as well.

At least Nissan has timing chains on the front of the engine, unlike some German mofos where the timing belt is at the rear and requires engine out service!

Had some excessive play in the front diff bushing…

Replaced the front, and the drivers side bushings. These bushings both had major deformation. And the driver side bushing inner was almost pushed to one side. Half of the front bushing inner was torn through.

I have the passenger side bushing ready, but the original looks and feels newish… no play and no visual indication of any deformation. So I’ll hold off on the passenger side bushing for now.

OMG it's So. Clean. 🤩

I bought it for my 04LC and a Camry (years ago), and Firestone did a good job on the Camry, but keep telling me LC doesn't have a caster adjustment. Ended up buying a similar deal from a nearby Yota Stealer.:bang:

Welp not even a month after getting my front bearings repacked and needing a new steering pump since the old one started to leak badly...the brake master decided to bless me with a leak as well..was debating doing a rebuilt one but if the original lasted almost 30 years why not start fresh..crazy to think how expensive these things are..sure looks good tho
