- Changed the front differential, rear differential, and transfer case fluid with Valvoline 75W-90 gear oil. (The squeeze pouches were super handy) When I removed the plastic cover under the car I also found a 10mm small bolt on it and could not figure out where that fell from
- Dropped it off at the shop for a new steering rack, outer tie rods, and wheel bearing grease repacking.
- Installed a GROM Bluetooth unit.
- Replaced the shifter bulb
- Replaced windshield wipers with OEM
- Continued the marketplace hunt for OEM 16in wheels. The hunt shall continue next week.

Sure you don't want some OEM LX 18" wheels? Hahaha.

The squeezy gear oil pouches are the best! Other than the fact that the pull tabs are worthless. You have to cut the foil seal on top in my experience. Not the end of the world, just annoying to get one more thing coated in stanky gear oil...

I had replaced the serpentine idler pulley about 2 months ago due to slight noises when idling the engine. The idler pulley had zero play, but spun freely.

Now I find similar bearing noise again at idle. And now the serpentine tensioner pulley is the culprit. It did not spin freely 2 months ago, but now it does.

So… next up on the ( thankfully) short list of things to do…

This is a well-loved Cruiser right here!! Look at that engine bay. Goals!

Lots of little surprises in my new-to-me Cruiser. Most of them are pretty minor. Today I replaced the antenna with a fully manual one. 15 minute job. Fit perfectly. I think I found the part number on Mud somewhere. And as I type this I realized I didn't strap down the wiring harness, so I'm going to have a nice little thud when I go off-road.

I keep a couple of those used pouches around in case Valvoline is too expensive the next time I do a change. Right now Mobil 1 is $4/qt cheaper, so…

Well, they showed up Friday, so I went ahead and knocked them out today. Looking back, it wasn't so bad, in terms of parts removed. But christ alive I'm too old to be slinging 40lbs of metal around! Took me about 4 hrs total.

Interestingly, the CVs did not completely fix the clunk, so I guess the search continues. I've replaced the front diff bushings, axle hub flanges, and now CVs, and still get a bit of clunk. The CVs did however make a HUGE difference, and I had a boot that was torn anyway, so I'm very much glad I've done it. Thanks for the help pushing me over the line to tackle it! Couple of pics below of the new and old side by side, and the empty hole on the driver's side.View attachment 3903493

Hell yeah man good work. Don't throw the old ones away people will pay good money for them. All I can think of next is grease the drive shafts may further help with clunk.

Where in SoCal? Offer Up has some Lexus wheels being offered.

Just did a quick search, there are plenty on offerup in the OC area.

Haha, I’m trying to get the 16in cause I like the look more plus tires are cheaper for 16s. That’s a smart move keeping a few pouches.

I’m looking for the really basic 16in LC ones that I believe came on the early year models. There is a couple on Marketplace and OfferUp but one is in SF and a few of the others are pretty bad condition.

I finally got my winch wired up and the synthetic rope wound. I did a tape measure alignment late last weekend and it feels pretty dang good, except that the steering wheel is still about 60 deg left of center. I'll probably get that adjusted at the upper steering shaft joint, but holding off on doing the full proper alignment until I get the UCA's and AHC lift installed. With the winch, coastal off-road bumpers, and rooftop tent I'm pretty sure I'm getting close to the point where I will need to go to stiffer torsion bars. Guess it's time to fire techstream back up.

Feels like one step forward, two steps back.

Thanks dude. Yeah, I've greased the driveshafts already, plus hub flanges, plus diff bushings. Maybe the engine mounts or tranny mounts or something are worn too. I'll have to get under the truck and do some more investigation.

The guy doing the fab on my rear bumper was delayed starting on it due to being busy, but it's looking great now! This will get quarter panel hoops and dual swingouts.

It'll also have the 3 way road vision lights for brake/turn/reverse, and some Baja design dedicated reverse lights.

I've been very pleased thus far - there's been some design tweaks as we've gone & I think it's really coming together. Plus, sub-$3K out the door (including powder coating) for something built to my specifications is a (IMO) steal. I was initially thinking about doing a coastal kit myself, but this has everything I'd want on it.

Had some excessive play in the front diff bushing…

Replaced the front, and the drivers side bushings. These bushings both had major deformation. And the driver side bushing inner was almost pushed to one side. Half of the front bushing inner was torn through.

I have the passenger side bushing ready, but the original looks and feels newish… no play and no visual indication of any deformation. So I’ll hold off on the passenger side bushing for now.

I did the same thing and while the "clunk" when shifting from Park to Reverse only improved slightly, the shift from Neutral to Drive is 100% better. Super smooth, to the point of being unnoticeable. :)

I am new to the 100 series. Coming from the 40 forum OCD Bettle has a really successful, fun thread where we post a pic of wheeling, a fix, a new part, etc. for our trucks.

It's neat to see the mix of projects, daily driving issues, weekend wheelin reports, etc.

I thought the 100 forum could use one...

I'll start...today I ordered an Iron Man 2 inch lift kit for my 99'.
I know this is a really old tread, I was hoping to get some options on putting a couple of usb chargers on the hood in a secure box instead of a second battery. Any ideas ?
