I searched on here as google. Never really found an answer.

Are any of y'all running ebc pads, if so which ones. Are you running stock rotors or an upgraded replacement?

It's time dr something other than stock 80 or 100 series pads for this 80.

Thanks in advance
Will

Been using EBC rotors and Green EBC pads for three years now, truck stops better than ever, very little dust and lasts good

I am running OEM rotors and Green pads and while I love them for everyday driving, they were overwhelmed with fast mountain driving. I had to switch to low range gears to save the brakes. It was a bit scary coming up to a turn and feeling the brakes overheated and not slowing the vehicle down.

I need to do the ABS pump bypass.

What does the abs pump bypass have to do with anything? I've ditched abs on 2 of 3 80s I've owned and it stopped the same.

That is pretty odd that the EBC greens would have any issues. They should braking better than stock. My guess would be that you have old brake fluid? The EBC's have more friction so they probably get hot and boil the old fluid. Just a guess but maybe try a brake fluid flush.

The whole brake system was flushed when I installed new calipers on the rear and EBC's at all four corners. It's wasn't the performance but the fade after driving through winding mountain roads downhill.

I have used 100 series pads on the front of my 97 for several years. Stock Toyota 100 pads, ebc yellow 100 pads. Current pads are ebc blue 100 series pads. Still on original front rotors at approx 170k miles. They are all good. Some are more expensive. It kind of depends on what your willing to put up with. Dust, noise, pad life, initial bite, and resistance to fade.

Lumbee1 you probably need a more aggressive pad if your running 35 inch tires and running heavy with armor, etc. try the ebc yellows all around or go for blue on the front and yellow in the rear brakes

There are no blues for the 80 series unless you go to a 100 series pad.

These are the most aggressive EBC pads you can fit to the 80 after removing the antisqeal backing.

I own a construction company. Sometimes the 80 pulls the box trailer and every once in awhile it gets to yank the dump trailer. If your ever owned a 2wd dually you'll understand why.

Anyways, the stock pads work ok 90% of the time but it never fails that some yahoo is gonna pull out in front of you once the stock pads get hot.

It's down to either hawk lts or yellow ebc.

I have also experienced EBC brake pad glazing (yellowstuff), but in all fairness it was at the racetrack :hillbilly: Greenstuff would be the appropriate application for general truck use, IMO.

I personally LOVE my Axxis Ultimate pads and they cost next to nothing at rockauto.com. Tons of dust, but they stop like the dickens, which is all that really matters to me.

I tried EBC Greens on my 93 4Runner, and hated them! Switch out to Hawk Brake Pads - and man what a difference. Even when off roading in deep water, or mud they will stop on a dime.

Personally - I'll use Hawk pads again when my Land Cruiser is ready for a change. Along with Slotted and Drilled rotors.

running ebc drilled/slotted rotors and greenstuff pads. came as a kit. truck stops impressively well. truck is on the lighter side though. i buy into the slotted only argument though that drilled rotors are prone to cracking. so i probably wont do drilled again.

and i agree 100% on brake fluid flush. worth the time/effort/money!

I've had Hawk HP's, EBC Green & EBC Yellow alljust in 80 series fit - Either EBC seemed the same, and in fact my 40th needs new pads and a rotor grind & I'll just take whichever EBC is quicker for my local Napa to get - both are great & it's a street 80.
Personal preference, Yellows for my black 80 with the 34.5" tires - but a good braking system with any pad on stock tire size is going to get the job done.

If you know your axles to the point you can orthographically blow apart parts in your head, feel free to experiment - but if you're newish just grab some Toy pads (either 80 or 100) - and make sure the rest of your system is using your pads to the fullest.

Just saw a post about drilled rotors - and I agree - they just aren't for off-road use. If buying slotted one is in your idea of "gotta have" - then I'd stop there. I have drilled rotors on my street cars &even Hawk HP pads - but street is a world away from trails, let alone hardcore-ish sections of mud/rocks/combo/whatever.

I don't mean that in any condescending way, just walk before you run- right?

I could teach a blind monkey to rebuild a Toyota solid axle over the phone.

I think I'm gonna go with the hawk lts pads.
