FWIW the only grease I've used on mine is Syl-glide, on the caliper sliding pins.

thanks guys. it's nice to have guys like kernal and RM and ZR around. not sure what i'd be doing otherwise. in part i want to apologize. i got a little zip lock of some toyota grease from the parts manager when i asked and then for the life of me i couldn't find it.
then this lithium based glycol specification had me all tripped up and all i could find was ceramic - which they alternately call grease or lubricant and store in different aisles - at the auto arts store.
meanwhile it was 100 dF and i was trying to figure out where the pins were for my rear calipers (doh) and part of me couldn't imagine how it was i didn't already have something that would fit the bill.
anyway i finally went to order the toyota grease from ourisman and they won't ship it so i finally got it from my local dealer (and talked him firm from $40 to $25 by telling him he was a criminal...).
anyway i admit to being much happier doing this right so want to thank everyone for hanging in on the topic. it was a big help.

I haven't used the shin-etsu high vacuum grease myself but FWIW it's a silicone grease used to swell O-rings (or keep them from shrinking) in vacuum systems.

The Toyota brake caliper grease can be ordered from any Toyota dealer.
i bought that HIVAC stuff accidentally. it's super viscous. i meant to order the regular shin etsu grease so i ordered that after i finally figured out i got the wrong stuff.
i admit to being curious about what the difference might be between shin etsu snd toyota grease. maybe that's a question for those bob knows oil guys or whatever it is...
