It's time to let my FJ60 go so I can get something with better gas mileage.
I'll start off with some details and a price, I'll get photos tomorrow.
1985 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60. May 85 build date.
The good:
-1986 carbed Chevy 350 V8. 4 bolt main, Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock 1405 carb, RV cam, headers. 80,000 miles
-Mark's Offroad adapter to factory 4 speed
-Only one small speck of rust (from being in flagstaff), Nickel sized.
-AZ truck
-All original interior in great condition.

This cruiser has been in our family since 160K (almost 6 years). The 15K mileage has gone on it as daily driver the short distances around our small town, as well as short hauls to camp for the weekend here around Tahoe.
We now have a Tundra and I wish I could hang onto the 60, but it takes second seat our locked 80, so it’s now a 3rd vehicle. I cannot justify 3rd vehicle and I don’t have the room to keep it.

Well folks the time has come for me to sell. I'm only letting go because I'm off to Africa for four months at the end of this month, and then again next spring for 6. I want the flexibility of having cash on hand if I want to buy a little car for over there...I do want to have a lifetime 60 one day, but I have another spare engine nearby that I can rebuild at any time should a great 60 come along one day when I have more time.
This is a great Land Cruiser with relatively low mileage on a diesel engine, at 332, 000 km (just over 200 000 miles). As many of you know it is good to 450 000 km without a rebuild. It is an automatic. Not a lot of power but super easy to drive in the city. I love it compared to the five speed...

1987 FJ60 Land Cruiser for sale with ~225,000 miles. Not currently running due to a poor carburetor rebuild by me.
The good:

It made it 3,000 miles from Boston to Billings with no issue about 8 weeks ago
Frame and drive train have very little rust due to the car being in California most of its life
The bad:
Previously mentioned carb issue
Right roof gutter rust will need work - it's pretty rough but it does not leak and the headliner is in perfect condition
2nd gear is rough (more so when cold) going into gear, but does not pop out of gear - I've been told this is a syncro ring issue

Time for me to upgrade to an 80. I've had the 62 since December of 2010, and have driven it less than 4000 miles since then. I used it as my goose hunting rig and dog hauler. In the act of full disclosure here is the condition following no particular order. I've replaced the water pump with a rebuilt Toyota one. Upper and lower hoses, t-stat and short hoses around that, and a couple of the longer heater hoses leading back to the mess along the engine with the hard lines and mix valve. For sale is my 1989 Toyota FJ62 Landcruiser. The vehicle is in good operating order, it is equipped with PW, PDL, AC, Power Mirrors, Power Antenna, original AM/FM stereo and has 286k miles. It also has a SOA lift providing approximately 6-8 inches of lift. The extra clearance is occupied by Toyo Mudterrain 35" tires. The tires have a good 60-70% tread remaining. The FJ is powered by the original Toyota 3F fuel injected engine and is paired with the original automatic transmission. The transmission was rebuilt approximately 4,000 miles ago and was also updated with a B&M shift kit and transmission temp gauge. We're downsizing and I have to sell my beloved 1985 cruiser. This truck has been almost completely mechanically rebuilt in the last 5 or so years. It runs PERFECTLY and does not leak a drop of oil. I have a huge file of the receipts for the parts and work done. Sadly, I've probably spent well over $10,000 on fixing this truck up in the last few years. That's how it goes though.
Here's a partial list of what's been done:
- New Old Man Emu full lift kit, including steering stabilizer, anti-inversion shackles (greasable shackles and pins)
- Complete de-smog including Weber carb upgrade (new) - lots more power
- GM power steering conversion (big time upgrade)
- Rebuilt head
- New water pump and radiator
- rebuilt front and rear axles...
Ok.. it is time to make some serious plans to get rid of my "old" FJ60. I am hoping to sell it whole rather than parting it out. It is complete and running. For those of you that know the truck I am in the process of removing most of my "goodies" (winch, bumpers etc) and replacing them with their stock counterparts were I can.
It has a very good running desmogged 2F, 4 speed and TC, 2" Roger Brown body lift, decent interior, solid body and frame with some rust, some rust-free doors/hatch/tailgate etc. All good glass. Many parts have been replaced and/or rebuilt over the last few years. There is a good amount of money to be made in selling off parts... I just don't have the time or motivation to do so.
