The dizzy was stuck in the block on my '79 and would not move at all. I even broke the strap on an oil filter removal tool trying to get it loose. I looked at the threads dealing with this issue and someone suggested removing the oil pan, the oil pump, and driving it out of the block from beneath. That seemed a little extreme to remove something that was probably just glued in with oil that had turned to shellac from overheating. I made this tool using 1/4" steel plate, a slidehammer, and a piece of pipe to clear the dizzy shaft. It took about an hour and a half to make the tool and about 6 whacks of the slidehammer to get the distributor loose. No damage to the three threaded holes in the dizzy. I have no idea if this is a problem common to our 2F engines, but I could tell from the dings in the dizzy that the PO had tried to move the dizzy and had not been able to get it to move. Once I got it out, I replaced the vacuum advance with a good used one, cleaned and lubed the points plate where the stationary pickup is screwed, put a new o-ring on the shaft and made a new o-ring for the dizzy cap seal.

I was just thinking of how I was going to pull mine. Great idea I'm going to use it.
Thanks

@DougAustinTx Impressive removal tool but I don't have your mad fab skilz. Did you try removing the battery and oil filter and then use pliers to spin the dizzy?

Are you implying that you currently have a stuck dizzy?

I am. Apologies if my post was unclear.

Well, getting things out of the way is a good start. But I don’t recommend the immediate use of force. The machined edge of the distributor housing directly above the clamp is likely to break before the dizzy moves.

With the other parts out of the way, loosen and lift the clamp, then apply penetrant. Let it sit overnight and then try tapping gently with a rubber mallet. If that doesn’t work, try a few short cycles of heating and cooling with a propane torch.

And console yourself that you’re not having to pay a mechanic by the hour to do this. ;)

Your puller is slick, but I tapped mine out from underneath the truck with a 1x2 wooden stick (18-24" long) on the body of the dist. I could not get it to budge any other way. I tapped the stick with a hammer, BTW.
