Looking for some easy ideas for speaker mounts on 1978 BJ/FJ40. I have a Tuffy security box and Alpine head unit but left scratching my head as to where to put some speakers. I have a Softtop and soft doors................

I am going to put waterproof patio speakers on the base of my roll bars.

I've run indoor/outdoor speakers from the rollbar. They usually come with brackets, so mounting is easy. Might not be the cleanest look but at least you can hear with speakers in the location.

the big speakers in my truck are mounted on the rear fenderwells (jumpseats are long gone) - all of the audio was PO doing, but not bad at all :D

the overhead speakers are mounted on a plate overhead welded between the front side rollbars right behind the upper windshield channel

at high speed, I can only hear the overhead speakers - yeah, I need to get onto adjusting front vs rear in my new stereo

Inside the glove box is the factory location.

There is a metal plate creating a box to protect the speaker from "glovebox stuff".

The factory bracket for the speaker was bolted to the outside of the glove box, right side. At least that is how it came from the factory on my '78.

PO cut up the dash to install some small ones. I guess I'll be putting them back in there too. They are to the left of the guage cluster, and to the right of the glove box.
If you don't mind cutting holes in your dash, that's always an option.
Let us know what you pick!

Here's a pic of one of the speaker mounts I cut out of a piece of scrap stair landing that I got off the jobsite. It's approx. 1/8" thick. Not quite as pretty as the ones that Specter has but a hell of a lot cheaper. Above it is an factory mount.

Here is a pic of where the PO mounted some 6x9 speakers to the rear of the tub right next to the jump seats. Works really well so far.

I made these boxes of MDF. They angle back at the top to face up a little. I convered them with canvas left over from making the under seat tool bag. Speakers are 4 x 6, rears are 6 x 9 in box kits from walmart that come pre-carpeted. They are on the rear floor with extra wire so they can be moved or put outside the truck for camping. They fit perfectly, even when the jump seats are folded down.

I bought some 5" round water resistant speakers and a used wet suit. When I get the time I'll take pics and post them up but my intention is to get a solid piece of plastic that is fairly rigid, cut a hole to mount the speaker in it and then 4 little slits, 2 on each side, to run a piece of velcro through.then I will then cut the wetsuit to fit around the speaker and use velcro to close one side and run the velcro straps through the slits and around the corners of the roll bar. kinda like enveloping the speaker if you will and the velcro straps will allow you to move them anywhere you want. I'm debating on running the speaker wire through the roll bar and drilling a tiny hole to pull the wire through. It's not a trail rig so compromising the roll bar with a small hole will not be an issue.

Depends on what kind of sound quality you are looking for. If you want to crank it, gogle "wakeboard speakers".
Got these with Polk DB (Marine Certified) on ebay.

I cut holes in the dash also and kind of regret it. It sure sounds good though.

Throw in an amp and a powered sub and it rocks! I think I am more into music than some, so the stereo is a bit over the top.

Some day I will replace the tub and not cut it up. But for now this is what I like.

Here is where I mounted mine.

Found these at a walmart a couple of yrs ago. Sound off the floorboards worked really well.

My solution may not fit your definition of easy, but they sound good, are out of the way and with a bit of extra work can be made to look like they're meant to be there.

Wakeboard speakers x2 - they come with adjustable mounts for attaching to your roll bar. Waterproof too. Best (through not the cheapest) setup ive found for a topless 40.
