After doing some serious fact finding about suspensions for my 65 FJ45 I decided on the 2.5 inch OME setup. Almost everyone I spoke with had nothing but positive things to say. The next step was to source the stuff. I had initially thought about the local SoCal cruiser store that stocked the stuff but after a few bad experiences I was a little weary. Since it was reasonably close by and I could drive to pick it all up I decided to give them a shot. So I made a call to see if I could come by and get it all.

They weren't sure if they had it all in stock, so they had to call me back. I never got a call. After calling back again they said they didn't have it all. They weren't really sure what they didn't have in stock...

I figured I'd at least get a few answers to my questions...

"What's the difference between the N42 and the N89 shocks?"

"I've heard the light duty kit is the same as the heavy duty kit with a leaf spring removed from the rear pack, is that true?"

"What size shackles do you guys sell with your kit?"

I had my answer. The next call was to Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters. He answered all my questions and more. He understood what I was looking for and spent time explaining all my options. :bounce: He was willing to send a partial kit and if I decided to get the shackles, etc. after the fact he assured me I'd get the package price. I have to say Kurt was a pleasure to deal with (as usual).

The kit arrived on the day he said it would and everything ordered was there, neatly packaged and complete. Once I tore into the project and removed the rear shackles I noticed a slight problem, I had received 4 sets of the SB30 bushings. It turns out they did not fit the rear shackles on my year.

At this point my truck was pulled apart and tomorrow was Saturday. CRAP! An immediate call to Kurt that Friday afternoon and he picked right up. I explained the situation and he wanted to solve the problem right away. These are a little less common than the others and he was pretty sure nobody would be stocking them in CA. I needed 2 sets of the SB79. I also wasn't sure how the rear pins worked and he was happy to explain how they were pressed in. I decided to get a set of greasable pins because I was sure I would have to beat the piss out of them to get them out. "They'll be there Monday first thing."...

When I explained that the truck was half out of the garage with springs removed and I was willing to pay for overnight he didn't hesitate for a second. He offered to send them at his expense. I assured him I was willing to pay for the prompt shipping but he insisted. They arrived at 9am the next morning on Saturday (after a 4pm call the day before). :)

Kurt's knowledge about the product he sold me, his willingness to go the extra mile and his availability for tech support made me realize that once again it's good to support your MUD vendors!

Kurt helped me with my mini truck drive shaft to cruiser pinion flange problem. I had called a few local parts houses and a drive line shop, I might as well have been speaking to my dog, they could not do anything for me. 1 call to Kurt and he knew exactly what I wanted and how to adapt it and had the part out in the mail that day. Great people!!

vendors

I have purchased a soft top thru SouthBostonFJ (Eshan top)
Poser - rear disc brake mod
FJ40JIM - carb and dizzy rebuild
SOR.com has been a great help with parts and a great ref catalogue
CCOT for lift
CDAN for OEM clutch parts
And a power steer bracket (super built) but I lost the guys name:o
schmuckster - eng and tranny
Other people doing builds have sent me stuff for free and vice versa

All great and helpful

I took my fj to where I had some insurance work done for a paint quote---they immediately started sucking wind thru their teeth and gave me a "we dont want it quote"
and the body is in great shape

I then took it to a small street custom shop and the guy was all over it---I asked him what kinda things he could fab in his shop and he said "anything!".
The diff is loving the work and the vehicles involved not just turning product for profit

The fact that these guys lend us their expertise for free on the site is a huge bonus and money saver---we should support them:bounce::bounce2::clap::clap:

Georg - orangefj45

Great guy to deal with (like that's a secret!). HE pm'd ME and bought a few winch solenoid covers and in corresponding with him I mentioned I was saving up for a Toybox. So he says he can supply one and give me a real fair price. I didn't have all the cash on hand but figured I'll do it anyway. Then I figured why not get rebuild kits for front and rear axles, splitcase, H55f..... he even had a drum park brake for the h55f I was looking for. He let me give about 40% deposit - didn't ask for all $ up front. He offered to send me a twin stick kit for reference to make my own! He drop shipped the whole shebang to 3_puppies for me so I could drive it across the border myself to maybe save some duty. All very generous.

So I get all the stuff home (didn't cost a dime at the border ) and..... crap! stuffs missing. I drop him a message and let him know. He was very quick to offer to send the missing parts at his cost direct to me. The only hold up was it took me a week to bother rolling under my 45 and measuring the splitcase idler shaft diameter. The twinstick kit was so nice I just paid him and kept it.

Bottom line - Greorg is a great source for parts!

SOR was good too - they found me a rare a/c belt idler and crank pulley for my 3B for what I thought was a decent price.

CCOT was a little less helpful. Most stuff not in stock and the guys on the phone were less than perfect. The stuff I did get was OK quality for not OEM.

X2 about Georg!!

I was working out a deal for some 60 series knuckles and disc brake set up. He was very willing to spend the time with me (a non-mechanic) to go over what was needed to do the job and answer the many other questions I had. A Great guy! Nice shop!!

George for sure @valley hybrids

Kurt of course..

Marlin if you can ever talk to the guy;)

SOR has found some very unique parts that most companies would not pull of a engine and sold them for a fair price.
