ok, say the zombies are attacking, or the world has fallen into complete chaos, or whatever and you're building an apocalypse pig. what would you include and why?

my plans,
low lift to get over most everything without taxing the driveline.
mechanical diesel engine for economy, the ability to burn damn near everything and the runs in almost any condition.
maybe 60 series axles for a bit more stability (although not sure it's necessary with a low lift)
selectable front and rear lockers
winch
armor (sliders, skid plate, front and rear bumpers)
roof rack for supplies (gerry cans, firewood, etc)
storage in quarter panels for whatever
buckets up front with a good console
hidden holsters for guns
maybe a 33x10.5 tire

let's hear your ideas

Nuclearlemon,

Here's my " get out of Dodge" ride. I'll tow the wagon behind it. The Deuce has a multifuel motor and can really run on just drain oil, any fuel for that matter.

If you had to move out, after some major problem, then I would want a big V plow mounted to the front. There will be road blocks, that you will not want to stop at.

Heavy suspension, to handle the extra weight of the ammo and long range fuel tank or figure on bringing a trailer.

fzj80 F/R axles, links, and lockers

liberal use of heavy gauge expanded steel to fill in voids of bumper bars and rockers

lights...lots of lights

landing mats for rack floors, for dual use- maybe braced mats for bridging

frame mounted rockers, rocker mounted rack.

shivs for crazy winching on bumper corners, and rack front and rear hoops.

did I say lights?

shotgun mounts everywhere- frame rails, pillars, under seats, over head

hooks on frame and rack for carrying chains

PTO pump(s)

chains...chains...chainsss aw? CHAINSAWS!! there must be a dash operated chainsaw mounted to the front bumper, with an actuator that swings the bar horizontally in a 180* arch-bottom of front bumper;) near a corner.

now thad be bad.
Honestly, the best mod to a pig for this would be to buy the big UniMog...keep the pig in back and use it as an escape pod:p

hahaha, I didn't even read it all...Rons on it, right down to the cow catcher;)

I'll add:

14bolt and 60 from a CUCV w/ 37" military run flats from the hummers...that way in case you damage a tire all you have to do is find an abandoned hummer to steal a spare from...bolt on and go :D

I like the v-plow idea as well

Winches front and rear

I might put chainsaws on this too but they would be electric chainsaws

All of the above - I also like the plow idea a lot - any one make a V plow for the pig?

But I'd add several "experienced and trained" friends with brass nuts and M919s

Just to make sure we keep our stuff! ;)

You put a plow on and you can't wheel when you get out of town

Dual batteries, power system for charging flashlights and what not and gubs to add to some of the already good ideas.

My 4BT powered 80 is my zombie vehicle, but I really want to put in a mechanical diesel in my piggie, too. The 4BT is loud, so I'm looking at an Isuzu 4BD1T or 2T, Mercedes OM603 (OM617 would be too underpowered), or a 6BT with the whole Dodge 4x4 drivetrain to keep it simple.

On-board air
internal roll cage?
front bull bar
rear tire carrier, rear winch

You forgot "No rust" But, I want it. You want it. Tell Pighead to get busy!

How about build an Iron Moose sister pig? but green and cygnus white, 35" - 37" tires, diesel, a/c, slide outs in rear cargo area, slightly tinted windows and bucket seats. 60 axles and lockers!

What type of zombies are we preparing for?

I'm more of a George Romero slow, dumb zombie fan myself.

My first mod - doors that lock.... well, I'd even be happy with doors that didn't pop open when I take sharp turns. :D

I actually don't think you would need too much lift, power, or speed for that matter. You would need cargo space for the essentials, and easy access to weapons. If you are having to plow through stuff or are forced to run a riverbed...well..you just have waited too long. I am thinking something that runs quiet and can haul everything including the kitchen sink. Scrap daddy's deuce is about as good as you can get. It was designed when the world could end any day. I actually wouldn't mind having one myself. I have a 125 gallon fuel trailer that could extend my range to nearly 800 miles. And to answer your question about what kind of zombies, I think we all know it will be the third generation of non working Americans that will resort to violence when the free stuff stops. My $0.02.

Midgainc,

Well the Deuce isn't quiet, at all and you are right on several points. First you need to know where you're running to. Leaving early is key, but if you're waiting on family to gather or other group members, it might take a week. Put the plow on the lead vehicle and have some backup vehicles, diesel landcruisers would be perfect for that. Keep everything the same, fuel and parts.

When the big citys run out of food ( 3 days ) they will go looking for it.

Sorry OldBeachBob, but everybody will be headed to the great redoubt ( Montana )

Heavy suspensions to haul lots of ammo, fuel and all the food you can pack. Really don't need all the fancy stuff.

I think many fantasize about heading to WY, ID, MT, but it is impractical for most. Travel 2000 miles, fuel shortage, food shortage, only to have nowhere to go when you get there....not a good scenario. Best case for most folks is to go underground for 90 days and let he mobs thin out.
