I think we should take into account that the side curtain airbag will collide with a mount in that area, and launching whatever is mounted there around the passenger compartment. Probably not the best idea especially during a situation that you would also need those air bags and your head could be smashed into the front airbag.

I would be concerned as well, though in the image you attached it looks like that spot would actually be untouched?

Based on pics of the airbag system and placement of the mounts/buckets I feel they're out of the direct line of fire/sight from the airbags. Normally there's nothing in them, only when we're out on a Land Ops or other group run. I should probably take them out on a routine basis just to reduce curiosity. To be honest I always have more loose stuff floating around in the truck on a trip and am more concerned about getting one of us hit in the back of the head with a hard case. :( <- not smart

With the change to the rack, am bringing the Hi-Lift inside. The mechanism stows in a hard case that's lashed behind the fridge and I cut the beam down a few inches to get it to fit in-between the wheel wells and secured it with a couple quick fists to the Goose Gear platform. The round bar stows nice and secure in the cubby in the back.

85-90% of the time its on the roof. If I pack really light it'll fit inside. If I'm going to park someplace overnight for a hotel stay then I lock it up with a Steelcore strap.

Damn that solves one of my biggest problems! Thanks for sharing.

So, this is somewhat related to the build as it happened around a day trip to a CA SVRA with a couple friends and some planning so I'm posting it here for posterity, lol...

We explored the park for a few hours in the late morning, myself, a FJC (mostly stock) and a Jeep Rubicon XL. We explored the obstacles, the mud pit and other stuff here and there.

Then we found a nice spot for lunch...

We then watched (with restrained curiosity) some yahoos way up on the hill, in a very bad spot, making very bad decisions (like trying to turn around on a 35-40º hill). Rather than waiting for them to choose doom, we went to help...

No good deed goes unpunished - some serious pinstripes :( This one even moved the metal I'm afraid.

We got those guys (in a Heep Liberty/Patriot/whatever) winched up the hill and in a safe spot it was time to take a breather. They obviously had no idea WTF they were doing, or what risk(s) they had taken and we had assumed to help them. It was a 35-40º slope, you could not stand on it. Whooohoooo fun times....

After all that our group of three trucks proceeded along the trail and finally the moment arrived...

And...

My ulterior motives for the trip - it was time to ask my Girlfriend to marry me! (!!!).

I faked a vehicle concern (which she wisely ignored) but after enough time she came to see what I was looking at, and I surprised her with the ring/proposal.

My friends were in on the plan, so had cameras and Champagne ready. Amazing way to spend a Sunday.
