Would you be concerned about taking a 100k+ mile 100 on a road trip?

Talkin 1000 mile trip. All services done on time and up to date. Is a 100 series with a little over 100k miles any less reliable then any other vehicle with less then 20k miles?

I'll state the obvious and say if all maintenance has been done, should be dandy. This shouldn't be a concern, especially for someone that's owned four 100's.

Seriously? Haven't you owned one of these before? Two friends, one of them Kurt from Cruiser Outfitters, just used their 100k+ mile 100's as chase vehicles for the Baja 1000 - 4,250 miles total in a week.

Agreed. I carry extra parts just in case but have never used them. I'm at 181k.

I wouldn't be concerned at all...Regular maintenance? You're golden! My 3rd gen 2000 4runner has 206k on the clock and I drive it to the rigs when I work. 1200k round trip. Don't know if you have a scanguage but this is where I loved having mine...Watch you engine and tranny temps and I think you will be just fine! If a 3.4l can do it I know the 4.7 can!

All my previous 100's had less then 60k miles on them when I sold them. Never owned a vehicle with over 100k miles, from reading this forum I know that others have several 100k miles and drive long distances. Just havin a hard time getting my head around it and like to hear reassuring comments.

Mileage means nothing anymore compared to 20-25 years ago.

I bought my 100 series last year with 186k on the clock. I changed the oil and a week later took it on a 2400 mile round trip to FL from Chicago. No issues at all.

Really, I like the mpg thread better than this one...

I get so stunned by mileage comments on toyota forum... especially if you've had them before... two words... toyota & landcruiser... nothing else to say!

Trunk Monkey (I prefer to call him Chase 5) is right. ~160k and I didn't hesitate at all to load up 4 dudes and gear and head to La Paz, MX, many of those miles on the race course chasing. She didn't skip a beat. Damage includes some funky smell resulting from 4 dudes literally staying in the car for about 72 hours straight and a front inner fender liner being ripped out from a hard suspension hit near Coco's Corner. The fender liner will be easier to fix than the funk... the detail shop will have to work that magic :D

Ok I have 73k on mine. I know thats not over 100k miles but the truck feels brand new and even though looks don't matter much, it also looks new. It is a 9 year old vehicle!

Recently I went looking at new Toyotas as I was going to sell mine. Nothing on the lot interested me. Even though I was inside the vehicles and was able to purchase one. I took a few for test drives and once I was back in mine, it felt better built then 2012 Toyotas and felt just as tight.

I knew if I ever bought a new Toyota I would never be able to touch what I had. It's about the best newer model Toyota 4x4 built in the US up to date...in my worthless opinion. It's large enough to be a family SUV and designed to be a formidable 4x4.

Long story short. My 9 year old Land Cruiser feels brand new and I am willing to bet the parts are in a working condition that resembles good condition.

I have 238k on mine and would leave tomorrow.

Shane

Thats amazing after seeing pictures of your truck. I would never guessed or known.

I bought mine 2 years ago with 130k on the clock. I have about 183k on it now. I drive better than 25,000 miles per year. The way I use mine, a 400-700 mile trip is just like a trip to the grocery store. I don't even think about it. I live in East Texas and we hunt in central Texas. It is a 700 mile round trip and during hunting season I will do that twice a month or more. I have a senior boy in high school that plays baseball tournaments all over Texas and the surrounding states and that happens almost every weekend all summer long and into the fall. During spring, we actually travel a little more local because it is 'in District' since he is playing for the school.

Is it any less reliable than any other vehicle with less than 20k? I have driven new company cars through the years that left me stranded on the side of the road while still under warranty. In my opinion, my 100 is more reliable because of my experience with it and my knowledge of it. It could leave me stranded tomorrow, but I wouldn't bet on that.

John Force was a Top Fuel Funny Car driver for Castrol in the NHRA. Every time they interviewed him after he would win a race, his fire suit was filthy dirty grimy. They asked him one time, with millions of dollars in sponsorship money, why he would not wear a brand new fire suit and get rid of the old one? He assured the interviewer that he had been on fire in that particular suit before and he knew it worked. He had no experience or familiarity with the new one so he didn't trust it. My inclination is to think like John Force.

Not me. I take mine across Texas to my ranch about two times a month (500 miles round trip) during deer season. I'm at 185k+ miles. She is also my DD.

Probably. I'd take a Corolla with less than 20K over any 100K Cruiser. As others have mentioned, your knowledge of the vehicle's maintenance history is invaluable. My only minor concern would be the starter, if it's original. Of course, chances are you'll be golden and it'll reel in those 1000K like nothing. I took my '89 for a 3300 mile road trip last summer. Didn't even need to add a drop of oil- but it sucked up plenty of gas. Got 19MPG on one tank though!
