Would you be concerned about taking a 100k+ mile 100 on a road trip?

I personally think these types of threads reinforces how great these vehicles are. I love to hear how others use and abuse them and they keep on tickin. I started this thread because I need some reinforcement. I thank the members that have shared their experience with their 100's that have over 100k miles.

While hearing stories of people with 300k+ miles still romping on their rigs is cool, 100k is barely past the breakin period. I've got 160k and hopefully my rig is NOT an inspiration for any cruiser heads, because I expect this thing to go at least 3 times that. Reading all of these lightweights at barely over 100k miles (including myself) does nothing for me.

At 100k miles---I'd be comfortable on a 1,000 trip in just about any modern car produced, as long as it's been maintained.

Let's hear some real inspirational stuff--who's got half million miles and willing to pull the Endeavor?
 
You should bring a spare axle shaft, starter, fuel filter, belts, PCV valve and driveshaft. Oh and a AAA card...and the number of at least 10 Mud members along your route who can come rescue you...oh and coffee.
 
133k on mine I use it routinely for road trips with the young family. It is also used for traveling to remote spots in the southeast mountains where help is a long walk and a longer wait away.

Interestingly, my wife's '07 Volvo wagon had the ignition cylinder freeze up in rural South Georgia last year. Result was a $200 + tow bill and a $500 + repair and at an unknown dealership 6 hours from home.

Only 66K only on the clock when that happened.
 
I'd be much more concerned taking a sub 100k vehicle of many other makes and models (my bimmer included) on a 1000 mile road trip. I've taken my cruiser on trips 70 miles from the nearest pavement and many trips over 1000 miles and have been perfectly fine.

I second that. Maintenance is everything. I know it's popular to bag on other makes, but I'd take most well maintained vehicles with high mileage on a road trip. Having said that, I bought the 100 specifically for it's reliability. But, any vehicle can break down at any mileage, so it is foolish to be anything but prepared for it.
 
Getting front wheel bearings repacked, brake fluid flush and new pads all around done today. Should put everything up to date. Should be good for another 15k miles until anything beyond oil/filter and tire rotation so I am ready for the road trip. Thanks for the great stories guys.
 
Just came home aftet 1500 mile winter trip with the family. My LC is the oldest vehicle with the most miles amomg my vehicles but gets to be the long hauler of choice every time. Secure through snow and 40 mph winds. So why do I keep the other rigs? Don't know.
 
At 110k with mine, all maintenance done. Did trip from SoCal to Eureka to Bend, OR in snow and all 1100 one way and she ran like a champ, solid and sure footed. So p*ssed that I suffered TWO rock chips that cracked my OEM windshield. So anyone knows of a good windshield replacement company for all OEM parts in San Diego please let me know.

I would drive my rig to Alaska tomorrow if I could....

VSC saved my bacon a couple of times in snow near Klamath Falls, the shiznit works

You probably ought to sell that old unreliable 100. That thing is probably worn out at 100k miles. I'll give you $5000 for it. I'll send a wrecker truck over to haul it to Texas. ;)

It all depends on its condition. I take my 286k mile 97 on long trips and have no worries.
 
Just bought a 2005 LC in Houston TX with 115,000 miles on it, no 90K service, old timing belt and I drove it home to California 1600 miles at 80MPH in two days... No problem. I had it checked by a local dealership before the trip and he said he has seen timing belts with 160K on them and only some cracks... So I headed home. Going to get it serviced before any other trips though.
 
Just got back from a trip to the Smokies in my 99 with 230,000 on the clock, 1600 miles round trip...no drama at all, but I've only been home 2 days and my ABS and brake light just popped on. I think its the dreaded ABS pump failure.

It may be as simple as a failed wheel speed sensor. Search for Agasains thread which contains the procedure to read and clear abs fault codes on your 99 model (its different to the later models). That will tell you what is going on.
