Very easy. Breaking the gasket seal was proving difficult. I showed him a trick I was explained by @OSS to use the bottle jack to push it up... he was unsure and left to go retrieve tools I don't have... (pry bars). While he was gone I wedged the jack in a few places until I finially got it seated snug on the driver side motor mount and under the lip near the pump. Attached the bar and started turning carefully. Pop. I sent him a text moments before he pulled back in my driveway; he got out of his truck looking at the ground grinning. I chuckled saying I just needed to get it done alone.
We used a length of plastic covered wire held by the end bolts and a 2x4x10 and walked it right out. No problem.
Valves are all out. Exhausts def have pitting. Intakes are loaded w/ carbon. I'm gonna try lapping one exhaust valve before dropping it off just to see how it cleans up. I've got the tool and the compound.
I've emptied the block from the draincock and stuffed all her holes (hehe, when do I ever get to say that in regular conversation?!).
Gonna head out for a few Ace Hardware new tools since some of my scrapers are all rusty or dinged up.

Best valve seat by far is number one exhaust. The rest are pretty ugly. The intakes aren't bad. Interesting how heat bakes and oil lubes.
My friend had a big C spring compressor and did them all in no time while I watched. Yeah yeah, I shoulda at least tried one. All the videos said they take a fair amount of hand strength to squeeze so I chose to not bother.

Its fun , right? !
How did the cylinder walls look?

Nice! Even though I've pulled whole motors in and out of these things a few times I pulled a cylinder head from the truck for the first time today too! That was not easy to lift out of there, I hope you had an engine hoist!

No hoist. A friend, wire cable and a stretch of wood. Was pretty easy. I was surprised!

Were you by yourself? How'd you go about it?

I believe they looked good. Edges will clean up. One did just from my finger nails scraping it. I'll get some pics tmrw.
Got maybe a 1/4 of the surface cleaner/ a new paint scraper. Darn shop vac kept sucking up my rags.
Tried lapping the exhaust valves but they might be junk...

Welp she's off. When you weigh only a third more than your cylinder head you use what you know.... for both my kids I always wore them in slings and wraps all the way up to toddlerhood.
Then I drove like I had a newborn infant in the backseat too!

Similar to when I had a fridge delivered. These two small guys came in and suited up in chest harnesses with big fat straps that went under and carried my old fridge out and carried my new one in. It was damn amazing to watch.

I've seen a TV commercial for those lifting straps the appliance guys used.
Yup used to use then when I worked for JcPenney's years and years ago and then worked with a buddy as an on-call mover for a while where we used those strap, but they were the forearm straps. Things are stupid simple and awesome.

Making memories here w/ my son. And she's cleaning up nice.
