I have a wiring diagram for the truck but it doesn't list the pin outs for the HL switch. The switch lables the pins so some are easy to guess like Batt but which are the others their labled

Batt
L
P
H
M

Any guidance would be appreciated. I use a wiring kit on the truck but if the switch is OK I would like to use it for the looks, cheers, Larry

How about the color codes of the wires to each post?? I have I'm pretty sure Batt, L, and P buy H and M need some guidance.

hard to see in this pic, I'll check on Sat and give you a better idea.

Larry, looked at the switch and here is how the wires are located
red-bat
red/black-M
red/white-H
green-L
green/black-P

as long as nobody messed with it, they should be correct. I can double check on an old wiring schemetic, if needed.

No I have the schematic and I rewired it anyway, just wanted the right stuff on the right pins.

Haven't looked at mine in a very long time. From off turn the switch counter clockwise and only tail light. Then from off first position clockwise tail lights/parking lights/dash lights. Second position clockwise tail lights/head lights/dash lights.
I remember the light switch had the tail lights only position. With this information should be easy to figure out with a meter and jumper wire. Batt is 12 volt positive. Believe H is head lights and P is parking lights. Think L is tail lights and M is dash lights. I'm more worried about wiring correctly then what colors goes to what lug. If the wires are still original wire it so it works correctly the wires will be on the right lugs. I've never pulled my switch out to check it and notice the tail lights only position right after I bought it in January 96 so my memory could be fuzzy. Oh mine is a 9/64 production 65 FJ45LP-B.

Nolen check the floor switch for issues? When i had the original floor dimmer it was badly corroded and cleaned up with corrosionx marine electrical cleaner

Put in a relay system see if that helps? Take the load off the old wires. See if that helps. I went thru my whole harness but i also swapped to a 78 column and moved the dimmer to the column. My guess is bad insulation somewhere causing a ground out fault. Time to break out the multimeter and see if you have continuity from wires to chassis somewhere.

Where would you put the relay?

What section of the headlight harness?

I wired up a relay system for my headlights on the 73. It’s definitely work. I’m thinking you have a lot of resistance somewhere. I’d clean up the lighting circuit everywhere that’s got a connection. And clean up all the grounds. Especially at the tail lights.

With old wiring like that there’s bound to be some issues but not insurmountable.

Man I chased wires for 2 hours. All my wiring is new at this point. I gave up and installed the relays and my fuse is a cool 63 degrees.

I’ve got a bit of cleaning and tucking to do now but amazingly this worked.

I was also able to just place them between the dimmer switch and the factory harness so it won’t be too obvious.

Nice. Relays in general are nice. A thought: did you clean up your fuse box? Typical rusty (not patina) as that location is a great place to pick up moisture from cowl vent/windshield frame/etc leakage.
