Builds Wilson's FJ80

I don't see how the 80 couldn't be happy, with some trail rides and a pup keeping the driver's seat occupied. There may be jealousy of the 100s new paint job?

Do all dogs assume control of the vehicle when we get out? We've always gotten a chuckle out of the look on our lab's face when he hops up in the drivers seat, it is as if he's saying " yeah, its mine, I drive this thing"

Today I replaced the charcoal canister. Both hoses running from charcoal canister are pretty brittle and need replacing. It's also short on the tank side and I think that bend it has to make to get there looks like s***, so gonna need a longer hose for that run. Needed to run to the hardware store for a longer bolt to secure the metal clamp thingies because this canister is so much wider than the OEM one.
Toughest part of the job was that the step stool kept sliding out from underneath me; truck is too damn tall! Second toughest part of the job was getting the tank side hose back over the canister intake. I could only get it so far. Also getting old and now need another Cortisone jab in my elbow.

Brittle hoses aside, I have had a spectacular week and this was the icing on the cake. I've never done a project like this alone, even tho this would take most of you guys all of 15 minutes. Tiny bit happy. 😁

Get one of these. It has been awesome to have. I will even put a step ladder next to it with a foot on each one sometimes. Makes working much more comfortable and stable.

Had to shuttle some kiddos around for Halloween (you can't see another house from where I live, so we drive to an actual neighborhood). Perfect opportunity to get some miles on the truck to see if it helped.

No fumes, no pressure on the gas cap, and strong starts every time since the new canister. I think that last part is probably too good to be true, but 🤞🏼

If you have run into brittle hoses, it’s worth the effort of getting a quantity of hose and replacing any line that’s showing age. I have done that with both the 3fes I have had with good results (better idle, less stumble, etc.).

Yup! On the way.

Some of you may cringe, so fair warning. I'm running that same charcoal cannister, and have never "secured" it. Just plain old friction fit into the oem bracket. I can jiggle it with a determined effort, but a casual jab at it moves nothing.

I only secured it on the front side but it's solid. Interesting that yours fit into the OEM bracket. Mine was too wide.

All I did this weekend was enjoy it. Took it up to Green Mountain National Forest.

Sometimes you need the cooler to keep your food from freezing!

It’s so friggen beautiful back East! I need this. Except for the ticks. You can keep those.

Great work keeping your cruiser running well. I still haven’t done my canister.

Yep, peeled a tick off Lucy's ear last night.

Few more.

Would have gotten to this sooner but in the Northeast we have leaves.

Ok, so @TYM4FUN this helped a bunch.

And @rex in bama bought a spool of new hose and redid the hoses attached to the charcoal canister.

I also bought this fancy lopper! If it has another name, it shouldn't. Hose lopper.

Also swapped out the hood struts with OEM ones. Now I can lose the hunk of rebar that was holding up my hood and take my life in my hands in other ways.

Even small projects warrant beer.

Nice. Wish I had purchased mine a long time ago. You have some beautiful country there...

Nice! I love those small random tasks working on the truck in the garage, beer in hand, loud music (with neighbors slightly annoyed). I agree that that is some beautiful country up there - very similar to some of the north ga mountains we like to explore down here.

My closest neighbors, who are still pretty far away, wrench on their muscle cars all the time, so they definitely don't care about my music!

Thanks! It really is beautiful country and I can't remember enjoying fall this much. 💖 La Nina 💖 so I might have a few more weeks before the body guy takes the 80 for its undercoating service.

I will miss it something awful this winter. Actually a little in denial about it rn. He said I could still drive it but the undercoating wouldn't last as long, so I probably won't, as it's pretty $$$. Probably have him address a few more body things while it's in his care.

Also have a whistling/whirring noise now so that is disturbing and needs to be addressed as well before I retire it this winter.
