Wild hair question: Can a 13BT head mate to a 3B block? (1 Viewer)

Why? Dunno, to get Direct Injection, as part of a turbo build...

Short version:
Wayne is right.

Long version:
The bolt patterns and so forth will line up, but the 13B-T has it's swirl chambers (essentially pre-cups) on the top of each piston due to it being direct injected, whereas the 3B has the pre-cups in the head.

So...if a guy was to swap out the 3B pistons for 13B-T pistons, and then bolted up a 13B-T head, it should work. Probably easier to buy a 13B-T though.

I thought about that a couple of times.

Would be nice ... a "homebuild" 13B-T (with the 3B-II as the base) with the rotary injection pump - sounds like MORE POWER

hmmm how easy for us to swap from a 3b engine to 13bt? considering the 13 is a turbo and is it intercooled?

EDIT: as for the 13B-T head on a 3B, interesting..., though after rebuilding with the 13B-T pistons and the other $$$ you spend with an engine rebuild, you may come out cheaper simply buying a 13B-T???
