So this is my other cruiser I picked up for cheap. The drivetrain on this thing is incredible. I'd bet this thing is twice as fast as my cruiser. It doesn't burn or leak oil either. I think the old man I bought it from didn't want a new car, so he had the engine rebuilt. I don't really care for the body or anything interior either. Now we have several options, you decide the fate of the cruiser.

The frame isn't too bad actually. It also has been desmogged as you can by the aftermarket cat in the second to last pic

Holy **** that's a lot of rust! From what can be seen in the pics, the frame still looks sound. Chop top and bobbed trail rig!! :grinpimp::bounce2:

Edit: You beat my post about the frame.

That's what I was thinking. I mean, while I'm at it, I also want to try doing a blow through turbo set up on the stock carb

X2 maybe swap the drive train so the daily has the less leaky one but i vote for a notion to loose the top, bob job and mybe toss some tube in there somewhere.:bounce:

Seeing pictures like that makes me proud to live in California, home of the unrusted cars.

That's true. I thought only the stock had the temp. unit spot. I think a hobo did desmog it in a walmart parking lot though. He's also got some weird spare alternator in place of the smog pump. Yeah I pretty sure this 60 once cruised Key West for a while

i bet that thing moves all sorts of power w/o and wires hooked up to it:rolleyes:

find out where that space alternator came from i want one too!

It looks stock toyota, just without cooling fins or a piggy-back regulator? The plug in the back looks correct

toss a regulator and crap on it and see if you can get it working...
if it does thats a nice freebie.

Yeah if it works I'll sell it to anyone who wants it.
Around here in Destin, the cruiser is highly publicized. Everyone knows about it, nothing short of a legend. People I barely even know ask me if they can drive it. I mean, there's only two 60s I know of in a town of 13,000 plus. I own both;)

Bugger she's a gonner!

even cutting the roof off will be hard with no front pillars.

My thoughts would be to get a rust free JDM roof from Canada off a HJ61.

Or buy a clean 60 from another state. Drop in the nice fresh engine.

That is the worst rusted roof I have seen.

Damm, I have to go apply more lps to my roof now...

I mean, it could be saved maybe but it'd be a lot of cash. I could see a soft top though, if I had a bigger welder. The rust in the A pillars does go all the way to the sills. The sill kickplate is open air, and the door is about to fall off. Basically, I'm going to pull the engine and transmission. Then sell the frame and axles for cheap to offset the cost of building a hi-po 2f. I'll then pull my regular cruiser's sad 2f, drop in the high powered one mated to a new 5 speed and take it college and ultimately; life.

:eek:what ever you do DON"T remove the surf rack!!!!!!!!!

Tha roof will fly off and kill whoever is behind you!

I have a California mint body from a 62.

I find it interesting that California cruisers are the least rusted. I would think the salt air from the ocean would cause havoc, but I guess not.

Some of the humid places like florida or central america just rot the roof the cruisers.

the canadian cruiser rot from the bottom up. Frames are usually swiss cheese.
