Are threads being moved too much?

Is anyone else getting a little sick of the arbitrary-ness of topics being "moved"?

Give us a break. Most of this should really be self-regulated anyway. Woody, I think you've gotten a little too liberal with your bestowing of moderator status.

I'm not really sure this forum needs any other moderators than Woody. He seems perfectly capable of checking the threads at least once a week.

Um, let's see, should this thread be moved? :flipoff2:

I vote this thread be moved to the "Ih8mud Help Corner" forum. :flipoff2: ;)

this is a tech forum, when I want to burn time reading chit-chat I will go to chat, 80's tech is one of the most popular area's here it would quickly be filled with chat like posts without guidance, I really don't want to wade through all that looking for real info,

compares to other forums I have been involved with the mods here are pretty hand's off. I think that is because the users here do a good job of self control (older group) and the rules are pretty lax (again older audience), that is how I like it,

got an specific examples of something that was 80's-tech related moved to another area?

I think we need to start yet another new catagory....the "no whining" catagory....this could be the inaugural post.

Hell, this thread should definitely be moved to chat. :flipoff2:

cite specific examples of threads you feel were moved incorrectly...list them in this thread, and I'll offer reasons to why they were moved or should not have been.

Now, that's just funny. There are anywheres from 650 (Saturdays are slow) to 907 (current peak) of unique registered forum members online each day. There are up to 118 new THREADS posted each day. There are up to 1580 new POSTS in one day. I don't even come close to reading them all, and frankly, I rarely hit forums outside Cruiser Tech, ChitChat, and Hardcore....

There are other forums where finding tech worth reading has become difficult, since so many sale and chatchat items are intermixed. I've read quite a few threads that I personally considered marginal in their 80-specific tech, but left anyways.

Posts are moved largely to assist and speed users in searching for information....if I want info on a GPS, there is no reason I should be searching in 80-tech, since those threads should be located in Outfitting. By the same token, I wouldn't search for CDL wiring changes in ChitChat.

I believe 'MUD is overall a pretty good balance between the iron fist displayed by other forums and the free-for-all I see on others.

Again, cite specific threads....if you are uncomfortable posting them, please PM me with the link to those specific threads.

also, interestingly, Mods are volunteers....some have been asked, the vast majority have stepped up and offered to assist. The perks basically include free SilverStar status...whoo-frickin-wooo....it's likely a great deal less hassle for them to pony up $20 for those perks every year than to spend their time wading thru every thread searching for that occasional boob shot that some 35-year-old child opted to post up...

It's not that hard people. Chit-chat posts go in a section called "chat." Questions about 80 series tech go in the "80 series tech" section.

It gets mindnumbing for people looking to respond to tech questions--people who are looking to help other people--to wade through topics that may or may not be tech.

If you can't deal with it, you've got problems beyond a web forum hierarchy.

My real choice is things are fine now. I do not agree with more should be moved. You should have included that as an option.

nice...just went thru 15 days of 80-series redirects and then hit the back button on the wrong screen....nuts....

found a couple I would have moved differently, but overall no questions....please post your links to those you were unhappy with.

I really don't see a problem with the job the mods have been doing.
I agree that chat-type subjects should not be in the tech sections -- that's why there is a chat section, right?

This forum is just fine as it is a good overall balance. It is easily the best world wide and on the whole very friendly. It would be a shame to let it degrade into a free for all, I am sure most people would not abuse it but it would only take a few to turn it into a shambles. We are all guilty at times of straying off the point and that is OK occasionally it makes for a warmer, more human place to exchange views and make a few friends.

I would vote for the Mods to be salaried. I would vote for the annual salary to be $100k to $150k based on age. I also nominate Beowulf as your first paid moderator, and move to close nominations.

Can I get a second?

:D

second...only because that would mean SuperMods get paid still more and the Owner (me) would have to be making millions to support everyone else....

I agree completely. It pretty obvious which topic belongs in each forum. Perhaps a little more commonsense would cure the "Problem". .02

woody, junk, reffug and gumby and anyone I missed?

I prefer that a select handfull of lunatics run the asylum. Thanks for the great judgment you have shown when deciding whether or not to move threads out of the 80 forum. Active but not heavy handed management of a forum like this is essential to keep it functional and pleasant for all.

Please keep up the good work. Oh and Junk :flipoff2:

I'd say either S/C or Turbo. The 1FZ aint bad, but these are two great options for more zip. Also, you definately should go with the OME. (oops, wrong tech thread)
