Looking to upgrade my headlights again.

LED headlight bulbs have really dropped in price, so for about $40 I can drop in a set of LED conversion bulbs.

Anybody found a good LED conversion bulb for our high beams? Am I correct that they are also the running lights?

Any specific bulbs to avoid or go for?

Looking at these for no other reasons than they popped up as popular on Amazon.

Thanks in advance-

I had a set of the OPT7 ones in my LX projectors. I was not impressed. A little too blue for winter/rain here and the pattern just wasn't good. After a second driver failed I yanked them and put normal halogen bulbs back in.

@REZARF ... I have put those same units on my rig. I will say the highbeams do well, but the low beam intensity is well underwhelming. If you drive on concrete pavement which we have here in Kali, the light tends to get lost in the concrete color at night. The contrast on asphalt is much better. I did the conversion to get the "cool" look. Eventually, I think I am going to move the @kelly saad 7inch conversion. Another issue I have is because of the how the notches on the bulbs are oriented, you cannot get the LED to properly get reflection needed. Finally, something brought up to me by a colleague who drives on the dark side of Jeeps, told me that theres not enough heat in the LED's during the winter driving. You may be stopping and wiping them off every so often. Well.. something to think about. Good Luck...

Good thoughts. My HIR Philips burned out after about 1.5 years. I think I will just pop those back in for now. For $30 they were fantastic and zero mods to the cruiser. I keep thinking LED would be rad but popping them into a 20 year old housing and hoping for modern day performance might be wishful thinking. I appreciate it fellas!

@krice118 hows the color? Ant blue tint? I like the color on the warmer or true white with all the snow I drive in.

Have you tried any other bulbs to compare?

I used for low beams. I have not tried any other bulbs. I am very happy with them.

Would like to hear from anyone else who has tried the kit. Simple plug in, no adjustments etc? Longevity?

I installed OPT7 in LX and 4runner. The LX wasn't an improvement at all, the 4runner with reflective housIng dispersed light all over the place, was blue-ish looking and wasn't safe for other drivers. Sent both kits back. If i decide to upgrade headlamps I'll go with a full proper HID conversion and be done with it.

On my LX470, I have Morimoto H1 2Stroke in mine and like them very much! I also put a set of the 9005 2Strokes in the HiBeam location but am having a problem with the PS one flickering and off/on deal, not sure why or what is going on with it.

The thread started with a replacement LED for the high beam location which will not operate as a DRL. We are working on a harness to make that possible with the Morimoto 2Stroke LED. The harness works for those who have retrofitted the low beam with a HID projector and we plan on testing this with a Halogen bulb in the low beam.

As @TXLX100 stated it's extremely unsafe for other drivers to run a LED in the low beam location unless you have a projector like the LX. I have not tested them in the Low Beam side of the LX but when TRS did a comparison they installed them in a projector and got the clean cut off like an HID. @LXstatic you should post some output shots of your low beam and we should have a fix for that flickering and DRL/high beam soon
If you want great lights spend a few bucks and do a retrofit.... you will never regret spending the money

We'll be testing the harness over the next few weeks for the high beam

Ok will do. Yes, I want to do a full retrofit but a little tight on funds right now... @Luke111 do you have a price for a set of the glass lenses with low beam retrofit? Which one is better the miniH1 or the D2S?

The D2S has the greater output... Full plug and play retrofitted into new OEM housings run $825.00 per side . For the LC crowd I may be offering DEPOs retrofitted with the D2S very soon.... when combined with the 2Stroke in the high beam you're looking at a pretty intense output and your DRL's will be LED

I have the D2S in the 1 piece black Depos. It was a conversion done by the previous owner. If I ever buy another Land Cruiser, a Xenon swap will be my first mod. I highly recommend it. The lights in my Land Cruiser are actually better than the factory LED headlamps in my 2018 Mercedes E300. That still just doesn't make sense to me.

I would also recommend not going over 5k for color temperature. I have around 5k color temp and it is the limits of what will not cause eye fatigue. When I rebuy bulbs, I will likely go with something in the 4k range. I would also be inclined to try out some 55w balasts to see what kind of difference that would make.

It's my understanding that manufactures are limited to how many lumens they can run. So yes the D2S has a much better output then the factory HID and LED lights. If you bump up to 55W ballast your 5000k bulbs will produce 4000k color and that's why I was running 5800K bulbs with 55k ballast. The new D2S 5.0 has a blue tint on the lens which warms the color so running 6000k to 7000k with 55w ballast still produces a pure white color

That is interesting to hear about the lumen limits. I have not heard that before, but it would make sense. We have SO many arbitrary limits in place on our headlights that other countries don't have. It is amazing what BMW and Audi can do in Europe, but aren't allowed to do in the US because of our antiquated headlight laws.

Thanks for the pointers when using the 55w ballasts. I will definitely go with a higher kelvin rating to compensate for the shift in color. I believe that I have the 4.0 or 3.0 for the projector housing.

Previous generation LS460 with LED headlights have 3 Led projectors in each housing but that inside larger projector only works on European spec LS460's for that same reason. The US spec cars have the projector but there's no LED driver or light chip installed.
