My next upgrade is going to be a winch , I think I have narrowed it down to three
models, mile marker se 9500 $?, se 12000 $583.99, or warn tabor magnum 9 $519.00 http://www.4wheelonline.com/warnmagnum9.html. anyone have any experiance with these models or any sugestions as to other models under $600.00 or should I spend more $$$. Thank you.

The warn you mentioned is new I think. Being a Warn, its prolly good. Search for Warn Winch on Google, and look at the dealers that pop up on the right. There are a couple with dirt cheap prices and free shipping, can save like 2 or 300 bucks on some models, and no tax if shipped from out of state. Beat the system, dude. PS sometimes winches fail, even with a Pull Pal, two shovels, a high lift, and a helper.

Hi,
IMOP I suggest that you consider a Warn 8274. I just put one on my rig and absolutly love it :). I bought it from one of the other members of this board. It was new and for $875 was a real bargain. Keep you eyes open on e-bay. They are very "repairable" with parts being available at http://www.shercosales.com/index.html (no connection to me). For a FJ40 you will either have to buy a Jeep mount to modify or make your own since Cruiser mounts are not available for this winch without fabrication or a bumper purchase.

Hey what kind of poundage winch should you get? I've got an fj40 that would be nice to put one on. Thanks

Chuck,
Well I believe the general rule of thumb is 1.5 times the weight of your vehicle so basically any 8,000 pound would be perfecrt for a 40

As far as what winch, Warn is always a good choice.......the magnum you speak of is made by warn but uses some cheaper parts in a few areas, I would go with it over a milemarker any day. The milemarkers are very slow winches.................some on this board once said it would be quicker to disassemble the 40 and move it out of what ever it is stuck in and reassemble than to wait on a mile marker to pull you out...................

I personally put a warn 8000 with 100' of cable on my 40 a few months ago, I have been very pleased with it so far, I have pulled many heeps out with it ;)

I would suggest the same set up for you, I believe you can find one for about 540, let me see if I can find the link to the dealer with that price.........

Warn 8274. Bombproof, and pulls great. They've been making variants of this winch for a looong time, and as noted busted ones can often be fixed cheap. Warn support is very good across all their models. Buy a cheap winch and see how much you hate it when if fails, or isn't enough. When you need a winch, you really need one.

Another good alternative is the factory pto winch, assuming your motor will run when you're stuck...For some folks, this isn't an issue. For guys needing help getting up a waterfall, it is a big issue. Fuel injection helps a lot here.

Warn 8274, slower beast but dead nuts reliable Superwinch Husky 8 or 10 ...same winch, the 8 has higher gears and will pull a bit faster despite published line speed.

IMO the new Superwinch EP9 series is probably the best bang for the buck winch out there. Many great modern features most other winches can only dream about.

Warn 8274

Everything else is an ornament.

Good luck!

Thank you for all the replies; it is grate help when you can get information from people with experience. I am shore that the 8274 is a grate winch but I don’t have any plans to do trails with a rating hire then a #3. So I think I will suffice with something like the m8000 (Clemsoncruiser), or superwinch ep9, husky 8,or10, (bjowett). But I have not fully made up my mind yet .

I want a PTO or 8274, however I have an M8000.

i decided I did not have the kind of coin to pick and choose, but rather need a winch soon that works, so I decided to keep my eyes open for deals and ask around. Ended up with the m8000 for $150 and it just needs a solenoid. Otherwise nearly new.

I'm a big proponent of buying used.
