Which soft tops are best for '77 FJ40

I have a recently acquired '77 FJ40 with hardtop, doors, etc. I want to get a full soft top and a bikini top for use in warm weather. What do I look for in top? Which brands/model can anyone recommend?

depends on what you like.

i prefer oem for the looks. but it's a pita to take down
stc fastrack tops are great, but the rails can get damaged if you get your sidepanels into things
old school snap tops promote rust where all the snaps are drilled,but no worries iwth bending channels like the rail style and they are cheap.

Hi All:

I have been using a Kayline "Fast Trac" soft top as my only top since 1998 and it is O.K.

I like the classic looks of the repro OE top (from Ehsan in Pakistan) but have no personal experince with it.

The "Best Top" requires drilling holes in the side of the body tub, which I'm not too hip on. The newer "Speciality Top" version of the older Fast Trac top is improved, no doubt.

I'd suggest you start out by buying a "bikini top" and maybe some two piece soft doors and try them out this coming Sprin/Summer/Fall. You may find that you are happy with that for the warm months and the hard top during the colder time of the year.

I would agree-

I can see you are in California, but I am not sure where your town is. I would recommend running a bikini top and see if you need something more. I run a bikini top all summer and this is my only vehicle, I have only been soaked a few times, like 3 times...

My vote is for the fast track... it looks great and is easier to deal with than the snap version. The OEM ones can take forever to get over here to the states.

Go with just the hard top/winter and bikini /summer combo. Save some money and put it elsewhere on the toy.

I dig the bikini tops SOR sells. I have several, but love my mesh see through Summer Top they sell. Very affordable. in SoCal, all I need year around is the bikini I have found in my case.

BTW, I have one of the Kayline full soft tops WITH doors in awesome shape for sale in SoCal. see it here

I can not find this STC Fastrack soft top anywhere. Are they still in business?

I'm waiting to receive my new '71 FJ40. It looks like it has a full cage. Can anyone post a picture of the STC Fastrack soft top? I'm basing my interest on the many good reviews here.. but I can't seem to find a place or website to purchase, or to look at pictures. THANKS!!

I was running a hardtop in the winter and an SOR extreme bikini top in the summer... until I bought my Ehsan canvas soft top. I don't think I'll ever take it off, just roll up the sides when I want.

I was wondering how many Paki tops would come off after they were installed.....The roll up is the way to go......
