Then after getting that piece fitted, I had some momentum and wanted to get the middle piece in (last one I need to complete before it goes to @cruisermatt ) and after laying the old on top of the new, I questioned whether or not I needed that rear heater… I live in the South.

Gonna look up what hoses I need to do this cleaner under the hood but for this afternoon, I just wanted the heater out. Gonna stick some bolts in the hoses under the truck with a little RTV and clamps and deal with the rest tomorrow…

we've welded that hole for the heater shut on a few 60's.

we've welded that hole for the heater shut on a few 60's.
We're prob gonna do like we did on my FJ80, and just cut a small patch out of some aluminum sheeting scraps we have and screw it down with a bit of RTV around the edges before covering it up with carpet, never to be seen again!

And just like that.
✅ Rear carpet put back
✅ Rear heater and lines capped off til I have a moment to delete from under the hood
✅ Aluminum scrap plate cut and RTV’d to the hole left from the rear heater
✅ Tailgate carpet finished… my staples were too long so I used glue on the edges too and it turned out fine
✅ Laid second row carpet in, gonna find the anchor points, get some openings in the carpet, trim the sides, get the rear door sills in, and get the rest of the rear seat in…

If ANYONE ever says that changing the carpet to new carpet (especially when such a great product from @dnp is available at a great price) doesn’t make things feel and smell and look 10x better than your “carpet in great shape”… well, they lying.

Second Land Cruiser to replace the carpet and it just makes such a huge difference in my opinion… and I had great carpet with no smells or rips (which we be up for sale if someone needs it!) but it just makes such a huge difference.

✅ 2nd row and rear carpet installed with the trim back in place… front row getting done @cruisermatt ’s shop with the H55

Thanks for the positive comments. Yeah, we worked really hard to make this carpet as "correct" to OEM as possible (regarding, fit, finish, texture, and color), and there's really nothing you can do to the interior that's more transformative than this carpet! It's truly astounding! And you're also spot on about the OEM carpet. It's notorious for fading out over time, due to heat and UV exposure, so while it might look to be in "excellent shape," it may actually be a completely different color than it would have been when new.

The shipper and I have a deal that he’ll come pick the truck up sometime within a given period of time based on when he has space. I was expecting a couple days notice, maybe 24 hrs… I got 30 minutes. Luckily the interior is basically done (for now) and the truck is ready to go to @cruisermatt because it’ll be there tomorrow morning :)

One snag that was left unfinished… since we deleted the rear heater and just cut/plugged the lines under the truck temporarily until we make a more permanent/elegant under-hood heater-hose rerouting/capping… I believe I lost just enough coolant, or more importantly introduced just enough air into the system to affect the cooling.

I ran the truck for 5-7 minutes, while getting it on the trailer and the temp gauge started to move very high very quickly. I’m pretty sure just burping the system is the remedy for that, overheating hasn’t been an issue in my ownership AT ALL. Frankly, I wasn’t even sure the temp gauge was working (never gets above 1/3rd on the gauge, ever).

I’ll be doing some work here, maybe working on my center console, getting some lighting stuff together, getting Geoloanders mounted… but for the next couple week at least, it’ll be getting a tan in Winter Park, FL.

The ‘ol girl may be going under the knife hopefully at the end of this week… once a different, similar build for another dude in Atlanta gets finished.

Here’s a pic of the h55 with the rebuilt split case and 10% reduction gears…

Overdrive, not reduction :)

driveshafts are shortened/lengthened, just finishing up another FJ62 and then this one is on deck

Working on a new scratch-built H55f crossmember kit for these swaps as the pricing of used crossmembers has went unreasonably high IMO.

Time to start getting some more updates in this thread… @cruisermatt has my girl on the lift and she’s getting that knee-replacement that she so desperately needs. Side Note: If I could get 2+ inches of lift for $2K on my legs, I’d be first in line.
  • Front and Rear OME springs IN
  • Next up, caster shims and shock bushings to button up the suspension
  • Identified a couple of “while we’re in there” items - Need to replace axle-to-frame hose with a longer one, and source some clips for the short brake hose that comes from the axle to the caliper
I’m stoked we’re making progress and looking forward to more next week!
PS When she gets back home, I have one of those attachments for the pressure washer that has wheels and shoots UP… that underside will get cleaned and fluid-filmed, not that we have salt in the state of GA, but just to keep things lookin svelt and preserve that frame from any rusty intentions…

And the parts for the work @cruisermatt 's shop...

Basically it's for a lift, 5-speed conversion (with associated parts), and items while we're in there... which so far are clips/pigtails but we'll see how that goes... there may be more. It's a lot of parts, most new, some re-purposed/rebuilt, but I'm very glad that these things are being replaced/sourced by @cruisermatt I know my abilities and I know my shortcomings, and sourcing/installing all of this would have been a task that I just don't have the expertise or time to do, and IMHO is better left to the experts.

Good question. I don’t know, never even got around to looking at it before I sent it to FL for the work. But yes it’s probably as old as the truck!

Yeah, old original spare.

Love this thread. Happy to see a good shop like Matt’s working on it.

I’ll be moving on my 62 H55F swap this weekend. Finally. Still beating @Skniper though.
