where can I find one of those interior spare tire carriers or mounts that allow you to cary your spare tire behind the rear seat, standing up, next to the rear quarter panel windows. I have looked at MAF, SOR, and other places but can not find one. I want to be able to carry my spare tire inside, to allow more undercarriage clearance.

I don't know if this would help...but...

some fj55's had interior spare tires mounts...

i searched and found this # 51911-90903 it was supperceeded by this number # 51903-90351 they are valid #'s and it comes up for $51.50...

all other parts numbers do not come up...the bumpers...handle...washers...ect...

DIY

Pull off the panel on the driverside and you will find sheetmetal upright struts w/ slots in them. You can use fender washers, nuts, and allthread. Punch a small hole:hillbilly: in the panel, re-install over the all thread. I used a wingnut and a jam nut through one of the lug holes in the wheel. Snug the tire up against the panel, and viola...

Admittedly not the strongest attachment, but it has survived some jumping and washboard roads:eek:

Sorry, no pics. But you probably get the idea. It actually looks alot like the 55 diagram above.

Spector Off Road makes one.

I used one of those for a while. It's okay if you don't mind tightening it frequently, having your spare rub against the glass and smell the tire all the time.

Chris, I bought one of the SOR ones from a fellow Mudder who told me he didn't, and I wouldn't, like it. It was okay for a while but rattles loose and takes up a lot of space as well as rubs the window. I can't recommend it as a soltution though they do make good tie-down points or jerry can holders as I use it now.

Chris, I think Gary is on the right track.
Ask Jason to build you a swing out for the rear.

That's the one I mentioned in my post above. Get for $10 and you'll be satisfied for a while.

About $3 in hardware will get you one. For the deluxe model a couple 2x4s to keep rubber off your interior. Search for the thread that has "yooper"'s mount.
