Where are the audiophiles (1 Viewer)

I ran a search and did not see a thread dedicated to the audio setups of local members. I am always curious to see what others are running.

My setup:
Peachtree Audio Nova 220SE
Pro-ject Audio Debut Carbon DC turntable
Pro-ject Audio Phono Box S2 phono preamp
Zu Audio Omen Dirty Weekend

Really happy with the end result. The Zu's are terrific sounding speakers. I've run various brands over the years (Polk, Monitor Audio, Axiom, Klipsch, etc) and they are the most enjoyable yet. I also occasionally run a vintage Carver HR-752 to mix up amplification. The carver sounds killer for sure. It is a toss up between it and the Peachtree.

I also have a fair amount of used gear that I no longer use if anyone is looking to get into audiophile/home theater. Mainly speakers right now. Hit me up if you are looking for anything. I have a monster Axiom Audio M80 7 channel package in mint currently sitting in storage that I would love for someone to be able to use.

I actually noticed the equipment when you posted in the bourbon thread.

I've always been interested/into high end audio but didn't have much equipment.

I'm slowly trying to put something like that together now.
B&K AVR 307 (just running 2 channels) was surprised how much better it sounded than my normal reciever.
Infinity Modulus speakers. Those 2 small speakers and the servo controlled sub sound great. Got a deal in college and have hung onto them.
Plan to add a turntable but still have a lot to learn before I spend the money. (new vs. vintage, cartridges, etc.)
Spotify over Airport express optical connection does OK. Maybe I'll get around to a dedicated computer and DA converter.

^I remember those, they were cool. Big and loud but sounded better than the Cerwin Vegas that rocked a lot of dorm rooms.

I had a friend that worked at an Infinity dealer back then which is were I drooled over lots of speakers and wound up with the Modulus from a sales rep that was upgrading.

I had a pair of those monitors back in the day as well. Great speakers. Your comment actually got me to google Infinity to see what they offer these days as I have not seen them much. Looks like they do still offer some nice reference options since being acquired by Harman.

I'm a wannabe audiophile but I have a super limited budget so I make do. I run a pro-ject carbon turn table with the ortofon red cartridge, along with a Bellari tube pre-amp into a simple Pioneer home theater receiver. I run Acoustic Research speakers from the 90's. I've always been happy with them for the price. Stature 30's in the front and stature 10's in the back with a matched center channel. The bedroom system uses a set of AR tsw210's from the late 80's/early 90's. These were the speakers my dad got for me when I was like 14. He's more of an audiophile than me - but he put me on the path with those AR's.

I have another system that I run polk towers on - they're decent for the price. I've spent a lot more time/money on the car stereos though, that's really where I've put my focus in the last 10 years or so.

Home theater / living room:
Monitor Audio Silver series S6 towers, center, and surrounds, a M&K V75 sub, with a Denon 2112 AV receiver. The universal remote integrates nicely and the Monitor Audio setup does both music and movies really well. I'm really happy with the audio setup combined with a 60" Samsung TV. I have an Ubuntu HTPC connected to the receiver for viewing Youtube and movies stored on my NAS solution.

Master bedroom:
Ed Frias Audioreview.com bookshelf speaker kit with a Denon 1612 AV receiver. This simple two speaker setup is nothing short of amazing. The range and detail of this kit still surprises me. The cabinets are crap but Ed Frias did a fantastic job in crossover design and component selection. Once I get my new garage built, I will make some new cabinets and move the components over.

A blind listening test of two speakers could mean instead of those $200 budget speakers you are now walking away with $2000 speakers. When I purchased the Silver series, I originally planned to purchase a Paradigm 5.1 for fairly cheap. After 5 minutes listening I was disappointed. The salesperson showed by Monitor Bronze for the same price which still didn't wow me. I demo'ed the Silvers next and was quite impressed. However I also listened to the Monitor Audio Gold series. Two Monitor Audio Gold speakers cost as much as my entire Monitor Audio Silver setup and it was easy to tell why. The Gold series were some of my favorites.

The Monitor Audio Silvers are really impressive speakers for the price. I still have mine sitting in the corner as I sometimes like to go back and listen to them. I demoed a TON of speakers before I pulled the trigger on them and frankly nothing in the price range came close.

I have a pair of vintage (1985-86) ADS L980 bookshelfs that are now being used as part of my mom's surround sound system. One of these days I will get them back and go on a quest for a good vintage receiver/amp to match them up with. Those are some of the sweetest sounding speakers I have ever heard. Good quality oak cabinets and metal grilles. The midrange domes have some kind of magic sticky substance applied to them from the factory that loves dust, but the manual said not to clean them, so they've never been cleaned. Weird.

Good eye! While I like having the 23 in the collection, I definitely prefer the 15 year.

Who can suggest a good high power home theater receiver. My 10 yr old 7.1 Pioneer just died. Got a Denon and although the features are neat it’s severely lacking in power compared to the Pioneer. Pioneer was rated at something like 90wpc (rms 20-20k 0.08%THD not some BS) but with all 7 channels driven.
new one is 95wpc (same non BS) but with only 2 channels driven.
No preamp outs other than the sub (thought about bi-amping the mains...)

Don’t wanna break the bank, but I can’t find anything for less than about a grand that has any decent power output.
