Hey guys! I spend most of my time over in the 80 series section, but I have a question for you 60 series guys.

I just bought a set of Wheel Vintiques Series 12 "Smoothies" for my '93 FZJ80. Nobody really runs this wheel in the 80 section, but I know a lot of 60 series guys run the smoothies. I noticed when swapping from the 80 series OEM aluminum wheel, to the smoothies, the backside of the wheels are different.

On the OEM aluminum wheel, the back face of the wheel is machined flat to sit flat up against the face of the wheel hub.

On the Wheel Vintiques wheel, the backside of the wheel is not flat, and is slightly concave. Essentially, only a small portion of the wheel is actually touching the face of the hub. Is this a problem? Have any of you 60 guys had an issue with the Wheel Vintiques Smoothies or other steel wheels?

You can get a better angle from the front of the wheel. Basically the "ring" where the lug nuts bolt to the studs, isn't sitting flush up against the face of the wheel hub.

I know tons of guys run steelies, including Toyota spare wheels. Are those steelies machined flat and sitting flush against the face of the wheel hub?

Thanks in advance!

I have the smoothies on my 60, and have not had any issues in the 6 or so months i have had them. Nuts have stayed torqued.

That gap or concave was not noticeable to me when I mounted them. Should have looked harder...

For what it's worth, the stock 60 rim is flat on the mounting surface but not perfectly so. it's definitely not machined flat like the 80 wheel. But it does not have a lip like the smoothies.

Thank you sir! Very helpful!

when you get them mounted up, please add a link here where we might be able to see some pictures! I bet they look quite dapper on an 80...

I definitely will. It was after dark before I got them mounted, so it will have to wait until tomorrow.

Anyone have a pic of these mounted on a 60? Never heard of these wheels...

Love the wheels! Have had no issues at with them over many miles. Plus I love the look.

Here's a few photos of the Wheel Vintiques mounted on my 80 series. Thanks for all of the help. I love the 60 series too!

Specs for the 80 are 315/75/16 BFG Mud Terrain KM2s on 16"x8" Wheel Vintiques Series 12 Smoothie wheels with 4.5" backspacing (no wheel spacers necessary).

Also, I've had several people ask me what wheel and tire specs to run on a 60 series for the Wheel Vintiques Smoothie wheels. Although I don't own a 60, this is what I would run if I did. It was on a 60 series in LA that I looked at.

Specs are 16"x7" Wheel Vintiques Series 12 Smoothie with 4.0 backspacing (PN: 12-670604) with 255/85/16 tires. Hope this helps!

I wish I had put those on MY 80!! Looks great. The 60 too

Quick question on these wheels:
Do they weigh more, less, or equal to the original Toyota wheels? Just curious. Thanks!

They weigh significantly more than the OEM alloy Toyota wheels because they’re steel.
