It's time for some new rubber for the 40. The last couple of years I ran 38.5x14.5 TLS SX's on 15x8's with DIY beadlocks (about 9" wide with the DIY's). I'm looking at IROK's, SX's & Pit Bull Rockers.

I would prefer the Rockers and the 37x13.5 would be alright on the beadlocks, but (always wanting to go bigger) I'm leaning toward the 39.5x16.5. Not sure these would work with a 9" wide rim.

Any input would be great.

Thanks,
Mike

I know Woody likes his Rockers, but I have never been impressed with them in any situation.

Aren't you still running Cruiser stuff?

It is hard to beat SX's....I like IROKs better myself, but I don't like the tread depth on the 40's at all. I would choose an SX over that tire.

Bigger is not always better when you cross the line into breaking crap all the time insteead of wheeling......

Thanks Nolen. Yep, running fj60 axles with 30 spline Long's front and Pig rears. Building a H42/4.7 ToyBox/Split case now as well.

For the weight I could go with 40" MTR's, but then I'd have to go with 17" wheels anyway and that's not really an option right now

I ransome grooved 38.5 SX's for awhile, then got a deal on a set of 37" Irock Bias plys.

If I have to buy a new set again, it will be SX's that I will then groove.

all the tires you listed are good options, IROKs and TSLs seem to work about the same around here, I havn't had the pleasure of seeing the Rocker in action. I would shy away from the MTR, seen too many sidewall failures with that tire. Maxxis CC are another good option, very tough tire with enormos tread depth, Out of the box they don't hook up very well, but supposedly once they are broken in they are supposed to rock.

I like the C Crawler thread .. but aren't many option to buy 'em .. anycase are good option .. and I will keep in the 13.5" wide tire .. just to keep safe knuckles and steering stuff ..

Maxxis = Ma$$is

Those fawkin things are PRICY!!

True, they are spendy no question, but they will last twice as long as any other tire in a trail application. I have 2 freinds with them and they are not sure if they like them yet, they are just getting broken in.

very possible :)

We wheel every 2 weeks or so, tires get worn in a hurry

We try to go once a month, but this year has been jacked up....

At $100 a tire more then the SX's I'm fairly sure the CC's won't make my list. IROK's seem to wear faster the the SX's.

I'll probly stay with SX's and groove 'em.

i love my iroks.

pitbulss are heavy and arent as soft, but some swear by them.

I am also changing tires soon...and am a little confused what tire to run...

I run a 37" MTR because I use to have to DD this rig and they seemed to preform well in the rocks, which is what I normally wheel.

My choses are down to 2 tires, the (38") SX'S or (37") TrXus MT... I will still drive upwards of 1200 miles on wheeling trips about twice a year and dont want the SX's to make the drive a horrible one. I am also afriad of them wearing out quickly...Becuase the trails are still 100 miles from my door. But agian the rig wont be DD anymore.

Sorry for the hi-jack...I am still confused at what tire to run.
